ﻻ ﺍﻟﻪ ﺍﻻ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﺰﺓ

(“There is no god but Allah” is dignity and honour
“Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah” is mercy)

ﻧِﻌﻢَ ﻟﺴﺎﻥٌ ﺭﻃﺐٌ ﺑﺬﻛﺮٍ
ﻣﻨﺸﻐﻞٌ ﺑﺤﻤﺪٍ ﻭﺑﺸﻜﺮ
ﻻ ﺑﺤﻤﺪ ﻧﺤﺼﻲ ﺛﻨﺎﻩ
ﻭﻻ ﺑﺸﻜﺮٍ ﻧﻔﻲ ﻋﻄﺎﻩ
ﺣﺴﺐُ ﺫﻛﺮﻱ ﺍﻥ ﻳﻨﺎﻝَ ﻣﻦ ﺍﻟﺮﺣﻴﻢ ﺭﺿﺎﻩ
ﻛﻢ ﺑﺬﻛﺮٍ ﻃﺎﺏ ﻋﻴﺶٌ ﻭﺗﺴﺘﻘﻴﻢ ﺣﻴﺎﺓ
(The best tongue is the one that always remembers Allah
And is always busy with praising and thanking Him
No amount of praise would be sufficient to fulfil how He should be praised
And no amount of thanks would be enough to repay His generous blessings
My only wish is that my remembrance will attain the pleasure of the Merciful
It is through remembrance that living become enjoyable and life balanced )

On the paths of goodness we walk
By virtue of the remembrance of Allah)

ﻓﻲ ﺻﺒﺎﺡ ، ﻭﻓﻲ ﻣﺴﺎﺀ
ﻳﺼﻔﻮ ﺍﻟﻘﻠﺐ ﺑﺬﻛﺮ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺟﻞ ﻋﻼﻩ
ﻛﻢ ﺟﻤﻴﻞ ﺫﻛﺮ ﺭﺑﻲ ﻟﻠﻘﻠﻮﺏ ﺿﻴﺎﺀ

DESCRIPTION:

Composer Sami Yusuf’s mastery of musical languages dazzles in ‘L’Amour Vivant’.
The initial movement unfolds within the intricate geometry of the Baroque style,
a form that was imprinted on the composer’s soul during his upbringing in London
and that remains a cherished inspiration. From the start we hear the subtle
meeting of musical paths in the Arabic baladi rhythm that underlies the graceful melody.
The transition into the second movement transports the listeners to the heart of Sami Yusuf’s
other musical heritage, immersing them in the Central Asian Azerbaijani world.
The third movement revisits the Baroque sound before incorporating
the rich tonalities and nuanced rhythms of the Middle East and Persia,
seamlessly blending them into a sweeping soundscape.
The meditative sounds of the West African kora and the sensuous tones of the Chinese erhu then follow.
The final movement acts as a love letter to the world classical traditions encapsulated here,
skillfully weaving together the myriad emotions experienced throughout this journey in sound.

‘L’Amour Vivant’ is one of Sami Yusuf’s compositions from the second concert of his ‘When Paths Meet’ series.
It features The Sami Yusuf Ensemble, The Scoring Orchestra of Paris, The Métaboles,
and stellar soloists and specialist musicians in a stunning collaboration.
‘L’Amour Vivant’ is classical crossover at its most innovative.
Performed at the Paris Philharmonic.

DESCRIPTION:

‘Karitas’ is a spellbinding new composition by acclaimed British musician Sami Yusuf.
It was recorded live at the Holland Festival in June 2022 and delivered with
exceptional artistry by Cappella Amsterdam,
the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra & the composer’s own ensemble.
The work moves with intelligence and fluidity from Western choral music
to Middle Eastern modes to the cadence of Andalusia.

Modes traverse boundaries from the distinctive Bayati Shiraz
and Rast maqams to the aeolian. Subtly flowing rhythms & improvisation,
entrancing solos on the Chinese erhu, oud, ney, violin,
underscore the depth of the dialogue among traditions taking place here.
Lyrics by Fuzuli, a 16th c. Azerbaijani writer known as a poet of divine love,
are echoed here in the words of the 12th c. German mystic Hildegard of Bingen.
Intoxicatingly beautiful mawwals take verses from
the Andalusian poet Abul Hasan al-Shushtari (13th c.) and
Abd al-Ghani al-Nabulsi, a 17th c. Syrian writer.
