The Dawn (Live in New Delhi)

Performed live on 9th February 2019 at The Sufi Route (New Delhi, India)
Special thanks to The Sufi Route.
Composed, arranged and performed by Sami Yusuf
Mixed & Mastered by Vishnu Rajan @ Andante Studios

DESCRIPTION:
Composer Sami Yusuf’s mastery of musical languages dazzles in ‘L’Amour Vivant’.
The initial movement unfolds within the intricate geometry of the Baroque style,
a form that was imprinted on the composer’s soul during his upbringing in London
and that remains a cherished inspiration. From the start we hear the subtle
meeting of musical paths in the Arabic baladi rhythm that underlies the graceful melody.
The transition into the second movement transports the listeners to the heart of Sami Yusuf’s
other musical heritage, immersing them in the Central Asian Azerbaijani world.
The third movement revisits the Baroque sound before incorporating
the rich tonalities and nuanced rhythms of the Middle East and Persia,
seamlessly blending them into a sweeping soundscape.
The meditative sounds of the West African kora and the sensuous tones of the Chinese erhu then follow.
The final movement acts as a love letter to the world classical traditions encapsulated here,
skillfully weaving together the myriad emotions experienced throughout this journey in sound.
‘L’Amour Vivant’ is one of Sami Yusuf’s compositions from the second concert of his ‘When Paths Meet’ series.
It features The Sami Yusuf Ensemble, The Scoring Orchestra of Paris, The Métaboles,
and stellar soloists and specialist musicians in a stunning collaboration.
‘L’Amour Vivant’ is classical crossover at its most innovative.
Performed at the Paris Philharmonic.

Don’t despair, don’t lose hope
Hold on to that rope
Don’t let go, don’t let go
I hear your call
Though you feel so cold
Abandoned and alone
But don’t let go, don’t let go
I hear your call
CHORUS
Give me your hand my brother
I will not let you go
Please don’t look back my sister
I swear I hear you call
Give me your hand my brother
I will not let you fall
Please don’t look back my sister
Cause I swear I hear your call
Little boy ask away
“Where are the streets I used play to?”
But don’t let go, don’t let go
I hear your call
Don’t you know we’re One
When you hurt I hurt
Don’t let go, don’t let go
I hear your call
URDU
UMMEDON KO NA TODO
(Do not lose hope)
HAATH MERA THAAM LO
(Hold my hand)
TANHA NAHI SAMJHO TUM
(Do not consider yourself alone)
MERE APNE TUM HO…
(We are a family)
CHORUS
Give me your hand my brother
I will not let you fall
So don’t look back my sister
Cause I swear I hear your call

Don’t despair, don’t lose hope

Directed by Omar Habib @ Andante Studios
….
LYRICS:
Let us not forget
Let us not forget
who we are, whence we came, where we shall go
Let us not forget
We have now fallen and forgotten who we are
Wandering on earth with no compass in hand
But we can remember
We can remember
Let us not forget that although cast in this lowly world
Let us not forget
Although blinded by veils of neglect and heedlessness
We are placed here on earth to remember
To remember
Who we really are as we make this journey of earthly life

Lyrics :
There’s something on my mind, on my mind
I just can’t get it right, can’t get it right
It doesn’t go away, doesn’t go away
Even though I try to ignore it
I just want peace of mind, I want peace of mind
I feel like breaking down time after time
And it keeps coming back, always coming back
All my life doubting was a part of me
Day and night I fight my insecurities
Asking: “Why?” “Why am I?” “Who am I?”
I just want some peace of mind
Antassalam (You [God] are Peace)
Wa minkassalam (And from You comes all peace)
Tabarakta ya (Blessed are You)
Ya Thal Jalali wal Ikram (O Lord of Majesty and Bounty)
O God I need Your peace, I need Your peace
I still believe with hardship comes ease
Make this stress go away, go away
Go away, go away, yeah!
All my life I know You’ve been guiding me
You’re the One, the One who knows my destiny
I’ll be alright, I’m sure that You’ll look after me
You know what’s inside of me
All my life I know You’ve been blessing me
You’re the only One, the One who knows my destiny
I’ll be alright, I’m sure that You’ll look after me
You know what’s inside of me

Lyrics:
When I try to show you a way
You just throw it right back in my face
You’re just to lie to what you want to believe
You can’t take that is good advice from me.
Chorus:
The road is long, the path is high
And sometimes we all need help in this life
But you’re too strong, and you’re so wise
But carry on and you won’t survive
And when I try to lend you a hand
You push me away won’t try to understand
Chorus
The road is long
Won’t survive

lyrics:
Blessed is your face
Blessed is your name
My beloved
Blessed is your smile
Which makes my soul want to fly
My beloved
All the nights
And all the times
That you cared for me
But I never realised it
And now it’s too late
Forgive me
Now I’m alone filled with so much shame
For all the years I caused you pain
If only I could sleep in your arms again
Mother I’m lost without you
You were the sun that brightened my day
Now who’s going to wipe my tears away
If only I knew what I know today
Mother I’m lost without you
Music
أماهُ، أماهُ، يا أمي
(Mother… Mother… O my mother)
واشوقاه الي لقياكِ، يا أمي
(How I long to see O mother)
أمكَ، أمكَ، أمكَ أمكَ
(“Your mother, Your mother, Your mother”)
قول رسولك
(Is the saying of your Prophet)
في قلبي، في حُلُمي
(In my heart, in my dreams)
انتِ معي يا أمي
(You are always with me mother)
رُحتِ و تركتِني
(You went and left me)
يا نور عينيا
(O light of my eyes)
يا أنس ليليا
(O comfort of my nights)
رُحتِ و تركتِني
(You went and left)
من سواكِ يحضنني
(Who, other than you, will embrace me?)
من سواكِ يسترني
(Who, other than you, will cover me?)
من سواكِ يحرسني
(Who, other than you, will guard over me?)
عفوكِ أمي، سامحيني
(Your pardon mother, forgive me)

Lyrics:
Some might say this world today shows
God’s left us to our mistakes oh
He has never been
So far away
Some might say
How could any father stand
See his children across many lands
Suffer so and give no helping hand
No helping hand
Somewhere tonight
Far away and out of sight
There’s a child that’s too weak to cry
Hmmm
Deep in those eyes
Can’t you see him in disguise
Reaching out to the heart that’s in you
And I
In every tear
That is where
He is there
He’s the hand that wipes that brow
He’s the tear that trickles down
Upon the face that cries without a sound
We need you now
What a simple choice to make
Between what you give and what you take
When what you give
Such precious life could save, life could save
Somewhere inside
There’s a part of you that asks why
Would he leave so many so far behind
And deep in those eyes
Can’t you see Him in disguise
Reaching out to the heart that’s in you
And I…

Lyrics:
I gave my Salam to the mountain
And I drank from the mountain stream
And I walked upon its surface
And it all felt like a dream
And this mountain it is a Muslim
And I feel like he’s my friend
And as I climbed on to his peak
I wished it would never end
Allahu Allahu Allahu (throughout)
La Ilaha Ella Allah (throughout)
We should be like the mountain
It never complains
We should be like the mountain
It praises God and never complains
We should be like the mountain
Like the mountain
I gave my Salam to the mountain
And I strive through the wind and the snow
And something caught my eye up in the sky
And I wished it would never let go
Cause this mountain it is a Muslim
And I feel like he’s my friend
And as I climbed on to his peak
I wished it would never end
Subhanaka Ya Allah
سبحانك يا الله
Glory be to You oh Allah
On this mountain I feel complete
And while I’m here to this mountain I will speak
Subhanaka Ya Allah
سبحانك يا الله
Glory be to You oh Allah
And thank God for this wonderful day
And I know the mountain feels the same way
Subhanaka Ya Allah
سبحانك يا الله
Glory be to You oh Allah
We should be like the mountain
An awe-inspiring Muslim
As it is
We should be like the mountain
Like the mountain
La Ilaha Ella Allah
لا إله إلا الله
There’s no God but Allah

Lyrics:
I know that I’m not alone
What I’ve seen, has been seen before
But it hurts just like a thorn
A pain I’ve never felt before
My heart says: “Just speak the truth”
But my mind says: “Don’t be a fool”
Need to get something off my mind
Don’t let this silence be misunderstood
I don’t know where my heart will take me
But I know your light will protect me
From this fragile world
I don’t know where I’m destined to be
Rich or poor, famous, loved or lonely
But I know, without your light I’ll never cope
In this fragile world
Did you think you can silence me?
With your lies, games and deceit?
You can continue robbing me
But you won’t rob my dignity
I know that life is just a game
An illusion that will fade
Cheat and lie, have it your way
But you can’t cheat death, no way
I don’t know where my heart will take me
But I know your light will protect me
From this fragile world
I don’t know where I’m destined to be
Rich or poor, famous, loved or lonely
But I know, without your light, I’ll never cope
In this fragile world

But it hurts just like a thorn
A pain I’ve never felt before
My heart says: “Just speak the truth”
But my mind says: “Don’t be a fool”
Need to get something off my mind
Don’t let this silence be misunderstood
I don’t know where my heart will take me
But I know your light will protect me
From this fragile world
I don’t know where I’m destined to be
Rich or poor, famous, loved or lonely
But I know, without your light I’ll never cope
In this fragile world
Did you think you can silence me?
With your lies, games and deceit?
You can continue robbing me
But you won’t rob my dignity
I know that life is just a game
An illusion that will fade
Cheat and lie, have it your way
But you can’t cheat death, no way
I don’t know where my heart will take me
But I know your light will protect me
From this fragile world
I don’t know where I’m destined to be
Rich or poor, famous, loved or lonely
But I know, without your light, I’ll never cope
In this fragile world
Life’s just a game
An illusion that will fade
Cheat and lie have it your way
But you can’t cheat death, no way

But I know your light will protect me

I Believe (LYRICS)
When you’re searching for the light
And you see no hope in sight
Be sure and have no doubt
He’s always close to you
He’s the one who knows you best
He knows what’s in your heart
You’ll find your peace at last
If you just have faith in Him
You’re always in my heart and mind
Your name is mentioned every day
I’ll follow you no matter what
My biggest wish is to see you one day
Chorus:
I believe
I believe
Do you believe, oh do you believe?
Coz I believe
In a man who used to be
So full of love and harmony
He fought for peace and liberty
And never would he hurt anything
He was a mercy for mankind
A teacher till the end of time
No creature could be compared to him
So full of light and blessings
You’re always in my heart and mind
Your name is mentioned every day
I’ll follow you no matter what
If God wills we’ll meet one day
Chorus
If you lose your way
Believe in a better day
Trials will come
But surely they will fade away
If you just believe
What is plain to see
Just open your heart
And let His love flow through
I believe I believe, I believe I believe
And now I feel my heart is at peace
Chorus
I believe I believe, I believe I believe

Hasbi Rabbi (Live at the Dubai Opera) – Sami Yusuf

DESCRIPTION:
‘Karitas’ is a spellbinding new composition by acclaimed British musician Sami Yusuf.
It was recorded live at the Holland Festival in June 2022 and delivered with
exceptional artistry by Cappella Amsterdam,
the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra & the composer’s own ensemble.
The work moves with intelligence and fluidity from Western choral music
to Middle Eastern modes to the cadence of Andalusia.
Modes traverse boundaries from the distinctive Bayati Shiraz
and Rast maqams to the aeolian. Subtly flowing rhythms & improvisation,
entrancing solos on the Chinese erhu, oud, ney, violin,
underscore the depth of the dialogue among traditions taking place here.
Lyrics by Fuzuli, a 16th c. Azerbaijani writer known as a poet of divine love,
are echoed here in the words of the 12th c. German mystic Hildegard of Bingen.
Intoxicatingly beautiful mawwals take verses from
the Andalusian poet Abul Hasan al-Shushtari (13th c.) and
Abd al-Ghani al-Nabulsi, a 17th c. Syrian writer.

Lyrics:
We were given so many prizes
We changed the desert into oases
We built buildings of different lengths and sizes
And we felt so very satisfied
We bought and bought and couldn’t stop buying
We gave charity to the poor coz we couldn’t stand their crying
We thought we’d paid our dues
But in fact to ourselves we were just lying
Chorus:
I’m walking with my head lowered in shame for my place
I’m walking with my head lowered for my race
Yes, it’s easy to blame everything on the West
When in fact all focus should be on ourselves
We were told what to buy and we bought
We went to London, Paris, and Costa del Sol
We made sure we were seen in the most exclusive cafes and shops
Yes, we felt so very satisfied
We felt our money gave us infinite power
We forgot to teach our children about history and honour
We didn’t have any time to lose
When we were so busy feeling so satisfied
Chorus
We became individuals without a soul
Despite the heat, our homes felt so empty and cold
To fill the emptiness, we bought and bought
Maybe all the fancy cars and bling will make us satisfied
My dear brother and sister it’s time to change inside
Open your eyes, don’t throw away what’s right aside
Before the day comes when there’s no where to run or hide
Now ask yourself ’cause Allah is watching you: Is He satisfied?
Is Allah is satisfied?
Chorus

“Jannah” Lyrics:
I know that this life is only finite
The good and the bad times
Will all be left behind
As we make our way through this journey
To the finest place for infinity
Allah don’t deny me
Your Paradise
Chorus:
Jannah, Jannah
(Paradise, Paradise)
It’s all I ever wish for
This life is not eternal
But the next will last for ever
Jannah, Jannah
It’s all I ever wish for
O God please don’t deprive me
A blissful life eternally
Oh how I long for
The moment I see You Allah
And meet Muhammad (pbuh)
With all his companions
In the place no eye has ever seen
Filled with love, peace and tranquility
Don’t deny me Your Paradise
Chorus
One day all my deeds will be shown in front of You
No one will be beside me, I’ll be standing on my own
Blessing me with Your mercy is all I’m hoping for
O Allah make my wishes come true

Lyrics:
Things that I’ve said, no they don’t mean nothing at all
Time just flies by when I’m with the One I love
Even sunlight makes it through the dark, in a cold misty sky
And when I’m all alone tonight, You’ll be right here…by my side
Chorus :
No matter what what world brings
And even if the birds won’t sing
Better times are on their way
‘Cause I know You’re there
And even if the sun won’t smile,
I know it’s been a while
Since I’ve felt any light,
But I know You’re there
Good times, they never last, I wish they were around
Their time has past us now, still haven’t made a sound
Some folks are dying to live, and others live to die
And somehow when I think of You I smile deep inside!
Chorus
The grass was greener on the other side
The world turns gray now, are we out of time?
And when I lie alone and stare into the dark,
I’ll remember what You said as I watch the stars spark
I know it isn’t even time to talk…
But I know You’re right here by my side
Chorus

Muhammad oh Muhammad
Solla Alaik Allah
The final prophet and the messenger
Sent from Allah
This is the story so far
Deep in the valley in the town of Mecca
A child was born
Change your life forever
The sky lit up with beautiful weather
It’s where it all began
He grew up fast walking with olders
And when he spoke the people would gather
He had respect from everyone
The most trustworthy was
Oh Muhammad oh Muhammad
Solla Alaik Allah
The final prophet and the messenger
Sent from Allah
This is the story so far
Woh Oh Oh
Then the prophet went to the mountains of Mecca
To think about life and make his mind a bit clearer
In the middle of the night there was a shining light
The revelation then began
He was asked to read but he couldn’t do so
When he tried he spoke words so beautiful
When he was told he was the chosen one
Salawatullahi Alayk
Oh Muhammad oh Muhammad
Solla Alaik Allah
The final prophet and the messenger
Sent from Allah
This is the story so far
Woh Oh Oh
We forever love our prophet
Forever
Everyday in our lives
Everyday in our lives
Spoke with words so kind and graceful
So graceful
He’s always in our hearts
The messenger of Allah!
Muhammad oh Muhammad
Solla Alaik Allah
