LYRICS:
Let us not forget
Let us not forget
who we are, whence we came, where we shall go
Let us not forget
We have now fallen and forgotten who we are
Wandering on earth with no compass in hand
But we can remember
We can remember
Let us not forget that although cast in this lowly world
Let us not forget
Although blinded by veils of neglect and heedlessness
We are placed here on earth to remember
To remember
Who we really are as we make this journey of earthly life

Lyrics:
Blessed is your face
Blessed is your name
My beloved
Blessed is your smile
Which makes my soul want to fly
My beloved
All the nights
And all the times
That you cared for me
But I never realised it
And now it’s too late
Forgive me
Now I’m alone filled with so much shame
For all the years I caused you pain
If only I could sleep in your arms again
Mother I’m lost without you
You were the sun that brightened my day
Now who’s going to wipe my tears away
If only I knew what I know today
Mother I’m lost without you
Turkish:
Ben derdimi kime söyleyeyim
Sensiz ana
Senin kadrini hic bilemedim ben
Aziz ana
Resul buyurdu;
Cennet analarin ayaklari altinda
Senin hayalin aklimda,
ruhumda, ruyalarimda
Sen gittiginde canim gitti,
Ayrilik bir yaman dertti,
Dunya bana cefa etti,
Benim aziz anam
Aglarim ben bulut gibi,
Dilimdesin sarki gibi,
Gunahlarim derin derin
Hakkini helal et ana
To whom will I tell my sorrow
in your absence, mother?
I didn’t know your real value, my beloved mother
The Messenger (pbuh) said
“Paradise is under the mothers’ feet”
Your image is in my heart, my soul, and my dreams
When you left, my soul left
Our separation was painful
The world gave me pain
and sorrow my beloved mother
I cry like a cloud
You are like a song on my tongue
I’ve wronged you countless times
Forgive me mother

We once had a Teacher
The Teacher of teachers,
He changed the world for the better
And made us better creatures,
Oh Allah we’ve shamed ourselves
We’ve strayed from Al-Mu’allim,
Surely we’ve wronged ourselves
What will we say in front him?
Oh Mu’allim…
[Chorus]
He was Muhammad salla Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam,
Muhammad, mercy upon Mankind,
He was Muhammad salla Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam,
Muhammad, mercy upon Mankind,
Teacher of all Mankind.
Abal Qasim (one of the names of the Prophet)
Ya Habibi ya Muhammad
(My beloved O Muhammad)
Ya Shafi’i ya Muhammad
(My intercessor O Muhammad)
Khayru khalqillahi Muhammad
(The best of Allah’s creation is Muhammad)
Ya Mustafa ya Imamal Mursalina
(O Chosen One, O Imam of the Messengers)
Ya Mustafa ya Shafi’al ‘Alamina
(O Chosen One, O intercessor of the worlds)
He prayed while others slept
While others ate he’d fast,
While they would laugh he wept
Until he breathed his last,
His only wish was for us to be
Among the ones who prosper,
Ya Mu’allim peace be upon you,
Truly you are our Teacher,
Oh Mu’allim..
[Chorus]
Ya Habibi ya Muhammad
(My beloved O Muhammad)
Ya Shafi’i ya Muhammad

Ya Rasuli ya Muhammad

Ya Nadhiri ya Muhammad
(O warner O Muhammad)
‘Ishqu Qalbi ya Muhammad
(The love of my heart O Muhammad)
Nuru ‘Ayni ya Muhammad
(Light of my eye O Muhammad)
He taught us to be just and kind
And to feed the poor and hungry,
Help the wayfarer and the orphan child
And to not be cruel and miserly,
His speech was soft and gentle,
Like a mother stroking her child,
His mercy and compassion,
Were most radiant when he smiled
[Chorus]

About the Performance
Sami Yusuf’s instrumental composition ‘The Meeting’ is an intimate
and deeply personal work. Direct and non-linear, the melodies,
rhythms and vocalisations sustain and support
one another flawlessly as the music moves fluidly between the Western
aeolian mode and the Persian dastgah shur. Solos by Sami Yusuf on tar,
Guo Gan on erhu, and Asad Khan on sitar circle each other
to create an embracing ambience where each melodic line is a subtle gem,
strong and fragile in equal measure.

This is an original instrumental composition in Bayāt-e Shīrāz mugham whose joyous melody is carried from the balaban and kemanche solos to the layered sounds of the orchestra. This piece celebrates the art of movement, an art that tells many stories and reveals the inner world of a culture.

DESCRIPTION:
Sami Yusuf’s composition ‘Veritas’ premiered at the Holland Festival in Amsterdam
as part of his concert series ‘When Paths Meet’.
From the minimal and ethereal sound of the intro,
it subtly transitions to a sense of awe at the astonishing majesty and multiplicity of creation.
The Persian-influenced musical phrasing of Sami Yusuf’s vocalisations
in the intro are inspired by the Daramad of Avaz-e dashti,
a subgroup of the Shur dastgah, a Persian modal system evocative of a meditative state.
Cappella Amsterdam sings quarter tones here and they do so brilliantly.
The flamenco and Andalusian sounds of the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra interplay
with Western classical elements and the vibrant Arabic maqam Bayati.
When the mode shifts to the passionate yearning of maqam Nahawand,
its similarity to the Western classical minor scale brings an effortless resonance between the two.
The outro joins Bayati and a harmonic minor scale in a multi-faceted,
fiery expression of multiple, even contradictory states of being,
while the vocalists insist,
‘Veritas’, ‘Veritas’ – Truth, Truth – and cast our focus beneath the turbulent surface storms
to the calm depths below.

Awake ( Instrumental ) [ Bonus – Track ] – Barakah (Deluxe) – Sami Yusuf
‘Shirvanshah’s Palace’, a new instrumental work from Sami Yusuf, features a 57-member
orchestra and dazzling solos on oud, kamanche, tar and balaban.
The musical narrative is majestic, powerful and intensely beautiful.
This piece is performed in Shur mugham [Əbu Əta], evoking an ecstatic mood that
echoes the Sufi ceremony of remembrance.
Although the sub-mode Əbu Əta (Or Abū ’Atā) is seldom used in recent decades,
it has been part of the Azerbaijani mugham system for centuries. The composer has chosen
to honor this particular traditional expression here, and in doing so seeks
to contribute to the revival of this complex musical language.
Shirvanshah’s Palace is a 15th century complex in Baku where the revered philosopher and sage,
Seyid Yahya Bakuvi, taught and prayed and where his tomb is located.
Performed live at the Opening Ceremony of the 43rd World Heritage Committee held in Baku,
Azerbaijan on 30th June, 2019.
