Veritas (Live at the Holland Festival)
DESCRIPTION:
Sami Yusuf’s composition ‘Veritas’ premiered at the Holland Festival in Amsterdam
as part of his concert series ‘When Paths Meet’.
From the minimal and ethereal sound of the intro,
it subtly transitions to a sense of awe at the astonishing majesty and multiplicity of creation.
The Persian-influenced musical phrasing of Sami Yusuf’s vocalisations
in the intro are inspired by the Daramad of Avaz-e dashti,
a subgroup of the Shur dastgah, a Persian modal system evocative of a meditative state.
Cappella Amsterdam sings quarter tones here and they do so brilliantly.
The flamenco and Andalusian sounds of the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra interplay
with Western classical elements and the vibrant Arabic maqam Bayati.
When the mode shifts to the passionate yearning of maqam Nahawand,
its similarity to the Western classical minor scale brings an effortless resonance between the two.
The outro joins Bayati and a harmonic minor scale in a multi-faceted,
fiery expression of multiple, even contradictory states of being,
while the vocalists insist,
‘Veritas’, ‘Veritas’ – Truth, Truth – and cast our focus beneath the turbulent surface storms
to the calm depths below.

Sari Gelin:
Sari Gelin is a famous Azeri folk song hugely popular around the world, particularly in Turkey,
Azerbaijain and the Persian speaking countries (Afghanistan, Iran, Tajikistan) as well as Uzbekistan,
Greece, Bosnia and Serbia to name just a few. There are many traditional versions of this hauntingly emotional melody.
This is our humble attempt at creating an English version of this beautiful love song
based loosely on translations from the original variations.

lyrics:
I fight for a love
Knowing it can’t be won
Sent from a light above
Child of our golden Sun
Sari Gelin
I reach for hands
Knowing they can’t be held
Cursed by words I can’t tell
Broken under your spell
Sari Gelin
And like a rose
Turning in to thorns
My love was taken
Back to the light above
What can I do, my love?
Child of our Golden Sun
Sari Gelin.
A beating drum
Searches on for your song
Echoes will carry on
Wondering where you’ve gone
Sari Gelin
Is that your voice
Caught in the mountain air?
Leading me to nowhere
Drifting in silent prayer
Sari Gelin
And like a rose
Turning in to thorns
My love was taken
Back to the light above
What can I do, my love?
Child of our Golden Sun
Sari Gelin
Saçın ucun hörməzlər Gülü sulu dərməzlər Sarı gəlin
Saçın ucun hörməzlər Gülü sulu dərməzlər Sarı gəlin
Bu sevda nə sevdadır Səni mənə verməzlər Neynim aman, aman Neynim aman, aman Sarı gəlin
Back to the light above
What can I do, my love?

Ya Rasul Allah, Pt.1 ( Kurdish Version ) | Barakah (Deluxe) – Sami Yusuf
DESCRIPTION:
‘Call My Name’ is a love song inspired by Ibn ‘Arabi. Full of metaphysical allusions,
the lyrics evoke a memory of the bliss of divine union, the time when we were “alone with the Alone”
in paradise before the Fall. But that union has given way to separation. The beloved seems distant,
and the heart of the lover cries out, seeking a return to that unity that was lost. Mystical and evocative,
‘Call My Name’ echoes the divine longing that is the very essence of love.

Lyrics:
You came to me
In that hour of need
When I was so lost
So lonely
You came to me
Took my breath away
Showed me the right way
The way to lead
You filled my heart with love
Showed me the light above
Now all I want
Is to be with you
You are my one true love
Taught me to never judge
Now all I want
Is to be with you
Allahumma Salli ‘ala Sayyinda Mustafa, ‘ala Habibeeka, Nabi’eeka, Mustafa
Seni andım,
Sana muhtacım,
Nurunla aydınlandım
Hayatım, senle anlamlı
Sende çözüldü, herşeyin sırrı
Sana kurban olsun
Canım feda olsun
Yeter ki ruhum
Seninle olsun
Günahlarda kayboldum
Acılarla yoğruldum
Yeter artık ruhum
Seninle olsun
Allahumma Salli 3ala Sayyinda Mustafa, 3ala Habibeeka, Nabi’eeka, Mustafa
Showed me right from wrong
Taught me to be strong
Need you more than ever
Ya Rasul Allah
You came to me
In that hour of need
Need you more than ever
Ya Rasul Allah
You filled my heart with love
Showed me the light above

Hasbi Rabbi – Mesut Kurtis
The lyrics of this song come from the poetry of the 14th century mystical poet Nasimi, who was one of the first literary figures to compose in Azerbaijani. The composer sets an ecstatic mood in this new piece in Shur mugham that evokes Sufi ceremonies through high-energy percussion and dazzling avaz sections. The musical narrative is majestic, powerful, and intensely beautiful.

See [the universe as] My face and describe it,
as I will not be contained in your description
Məndə sığar iki cahan, mən bu cahana sığmazam,
The two worlds are contained in Me
But I will not be contained in these worlds
Gövhəri-laməkan mənəm, kövnü məkana sığmazam
I am the Treasure of no abode,
I will not be contained in being or in the engendered world
Nara yanan şəcər mənəm, çərxə çıxan həcər mənəm
I am the burning bush, I am the rock that ascended to Heaven
Məndə sığar iki cahan, mən bu cahana sığmazam,
The two worlds are contained in Me,
But I will not be contained in these worlds

DESCRIPTION:
Composer Sami Yusuf’s mastery of musical languages dazzles in ‘L’Amour Vivant’.
The initial movement unfolds within the intricate geometry of the Baroque style,
a form that was imprinted on the composer’s soul during his upbringing in London
and that remains a cherished inspiration. From the start we hear the subtle
meeting of musical paths in the Arabic baladi rhythm that underlies the graceful melody.
The transition into the second movement transports the listeners to the heart of Sami Yusuf’s
other musical heritage, immersing them in the Central Asian Azerbaijani world.
The third movement revisits the Baroque sound before incorporating
the rich tonalities and nuanced rhythms of the Middle East and Persia,
seamlessly blending them into a sweeping soundscape.
The meditative sounds of the West African kora and the sensuous tones of the Chinese erhu then follow.
The final movement acts as a love letter to the world classical traditions encapsulated here,
skillfully weaving together the myriad emotions experienced throughout this journey in sound.
‘L’Amour Vivant’ is one of Sami Yusuf’s compositions from the second concert of his ‘When Paths Meet’ series.
It features The Sami Yusuf Ensemble, The Scoring Orchestra of Paris, The Métaboles,
and stellar soloists and specialist musicians in a stunning collaboration.
‘L’Amour Vivant’ is classical crossover at its most innovative.
Performed at the Paris Philharmonic.

Lyrics:
THIRSTY AS A DESERT’S PAIN
I MISS YOUR TOUCH LIKE POURING RAIN
WHEN CLOUDS COME IN THEY CRY ALL NIGHT
AND GIVE ME TEARS TO FILL MY EYES
THE FOOTPRINTS THAT YOU LEFT HAVE STAYED
ABOVE THE SAND BENEATH THE WAVES
LONG AFTER TIME HAS LET THEM GO
I’LL WAIT FOR TIDES TO GUIDE YOU HOME
DIZZY AS THE TEA I BREW
MY MIND STIRS ROUND WITH THOUGHTS OF YOU
AND LIKE THE MELTING SUGAR CUBES
YOU DISAPPEARED AND LEFT ME TO
YOUR FACE AND FORM IS ALL I SEE
IN SILHOUETTES OF SCOLDING STEAM
AT NIGHT THE KITCHEN CANDLES GLOW
AND SHINE A LIGHT TO GUIDE YOU HOME
(AZERI)
KÜÇƏLƏRƏ SU SƏPMİŞƏM
I HAVE THROWN WATER INTO THE STREET
YAR GƏLƏNDƏ TOZ OLMASIN
MY BELOVED IS COMING, SO THERE MUST NOT BE DUST
ELƏ GƏLSİN, ELƏ GETSİN
LET HER COME, LET HER GO
ARAMIZDA SÖZ OLMASIN
BUT LET THERE NOT BE WORDS BETWEEN US
FAR AWAY AND ALL ALONE
I TRUST IN STARS TO GUIDE YOU HOME

The Power Lyrics:-
Masisondele, masisondele haha phila nocolo yelele
(Let us draw nearer to perfect peace in life)
Subhan’Allah, walhamdu lillah
(Glory be to Allah, and all praise be to Allah
La ilaha illa Allah, wa’Allahu Akbar
There is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest)
You can say it once
Or a hundred times or more
You’ll feel at peace inside
And it’ll open every door
Chorus:
That’s the power of remembering Allah
It’s the best way to purify your heart
And know you will be loved by the Merciful One
‘Cause that’s the power of remembering Allah
Subhan’Allah, walhamdu lillah
(Glory be to Allah, and all praise be to Allah
La ilaha illa Allah, wa’Allahu Akbar
There is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest)
So much you can gain
Just by saying those few words
You can renew your faith
And be showered in rewards
CHORUS
La ilaha illa Allah (x3)
(There is no god but Allah)
Subhan’Allah, walhamdu lillah wa’Allahu Akbar
(Glory be to Allah, all praise be to Allah, and Allah is the Greatest)
Masisondele kuy’uAllah
(We obey You Allah)
Ngokukhulu ukuzithoba
(With submission, we humble ourselves before You)
Sizothol’ ukuphila Noxolo
(So we may find peace and happiness)
CHORUS

Prelude to River of Paradise – Sami Yusuf

Hasbi Rabbi (Live in Concert) – Sami Yusuf
Azerbaijan: A Timeless Presence is a breathtaking musical odyssey through a rich
artistic and cultural heritage. The music was composed, arranged, and directed by Sami Yusuf
for the Opening Ceremony of the 43rd Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee
in Baku on June 30, 2019. The performance was directed by the renowned creative director Andrei Boltenko.
This newly created cultural treasure comprises nine themes; each theme
expresses an aspect of the ethos of Azerbaijan from the land’s earliest
inhabitants some twenty thousand years ago to its contemporary realities and aspirations.
With fifty-seven highly skilled musicians under his direction,
Sami Yusuf displays his mastery of a complex musical language while
staying true to the traditional sounds of the region. The instruments
used (except the piano) are traditional instruments from the region including the tar,
an instrument so significant that it is said to have taken a role in shaping
the cultural identity of Azerbaijanis; the kamancha, the stringed instrument related to the Byzantine
lyra and European violin family; and the balaban, a double-reed ancient wind instrument with a plaintive, solemn sound.
Azerbaijan: A Timeless Presence mesmerises with its dazzling musical range
from the subtle to the powerful and from the evocative to the majestic.
It is the soundscape of a region that displays an underlying universality.
These inspired compositions by this renowned musician evoke powerful emotional responses in listeners
no matter their cultural origin.

Lyrics:
Allah Allah
Allah Allah
Allah Allah
Ya Rabbi
Allah Allah
Ya Rabbi
Allah Allah
Allahu Allahu Allahu Allah
Allahu Allahu Allahu Allah
Allahu Allahu Allahu Allah
Allahu Allahu Allahu Allah
Mawla Mujhe Ameen Ke Qadmon Pe Chala
Iss Dunya Mein Jinthne Ka Yehi Hay Raasta
Mawlay Famnahni Tuqan Wa Yaqin
Li Ahya Bidini Ma’al Alamin
Allahu Allahu Allahu Allah
Allahu Allahu Allahu Allah
There’s A Light That Still Shines
From The Faces Of Those Near
In The Night They Will Stand And Cry In Hope And In Fear
Nothing In The World Can Ever Turn Their Hearts Away
From The Calm Of Surrender They Find When They Say
Allahu Allahu Allahu Allah
Allahu Allahu Allahu Allah
Allah Allah
Allah Allah
As Subhu Bada Min Talatihi
Wal Laylu Daja Min Wafratihi
Hay Nure Sahr Chehre Se Tere
Aur Shab Ki Raunaq Zulfon Se
Allahu Allahu Allahu Allah
Allahu Allahu Allahu Allah
Allahu Allahu Allahu Allah
Allahu Allahu Allahu Allah
Allahu Allahu Allahu Allah

LYRICS:
Ey Nebi
Ey Nebî, dünya, semâ,
Müştâkındır dâima
Senin nurun her yerde
Güller açar kalplerde
Ey sevgili güzel yâr
Oldun bize bahtiyar
Eyledik sana ferman
Yetiş kalplere derman
Müjde verdi kendisi
Sevinç sardı herkesi
Alemin efendisi
O’dur rahmet elçisi
English Subtitles:
Oh Prophet, the world and the skies…
always yearn for you,
Your radiance makes roses bloom…
in the hearts and everywhere.
Oh Beloved, the Best Companion,
You became our fortune,
We gave you a decree,
Give cure to the hearts.
Glad tidings he came and gave,
and to all did he bring joy,
He’s the Master of the world,
He’s the Prophet of mercy.
May Allah send blessings upon
Muhammad (PBUH),
May Allah send blessings
and peace upon him.

Toujous Proche (Always Be There) Lyrics:
Allahou Akbar.. Allahou Akbar.. Allahou Akbarou Allahou Akbarou Allah…
Chorus
