Ya Nabi (Live at the Dubai Opera) – Sami Yusuf

Munajat (Percussion Version) – Sami Yusuf
DESCRIPTION:
‘Karitas’ is a spellbinding new composition by acclaimed British musician Sami Yusuf.
It was recorded live at the Holland Festival in June 2022 and delivered with
exceptional artistry by Cappella Amsterdam,
the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra & the composer’s own ensemble.
The work moves with intelligence and fluidity from Western choral music
to Middle Eastern modes to the cadence of Andalusia.
Modes traverse boundaries from the distinctive Bayati Shiraz
and Rast maqams to the aeolian. Subtly flowing rhythms & improvisation,
entrancing solos on the Chinese erhu, oud, ney, violin,
underscore the depth of the dialogue among traditions taking place here.
Lyrics by Fuzuli, a 16th c. Azerbaijani writer known as a poet of divine love,
are echoed here in the words of the 12th c. German mystic Hildegard of Bingen.
Intoxicatingly beautiful mawwals take verses from
the Andalusian poet Abul Hasan al-Shushtari (13th c.) and
Abd al-Ghani al-Nabulsi, a 17th c. Syrian writer.

DESCRIPTION
Inspired by the evocative sound of flamenco ‘The Praised One’ is Sami Yusuf’s ethereal rendition
of Qasidah Muhammadiyyah, a love poem for the Prophet by the 13th century Sufi poet Imam Busiri,
author of one of the world’s most famous poems ‘The Burda’.
It has been said from his day to ours that the writings of Imam Busiri have a healing power,
and their recitation is widespread across many regions.
From its intensely emotional intro to the sustained energy of the outro, the composer fuses
traditional instruments of the Silk Road with contemporary sounds. Sami Yusuf plays tar, rabab and frame drums
for this fully acoustic performance that moves from meditative vocals to
the complexity of flamenco rhythms with classical guitar performed by Jon Lawton.
The music is both intimate and exhilarating, reflecting the multi-faceted and luminous spirit
of the Prophet expressed in this beautiful poem.

Lyrics:
I can’t take it any longer, these troubles in my mind
And I just can’t keep it to myself, just how I feel inside
All the troubles in the world today, we cannot leave behind
But you’d say we are the ones to blame, are we the one to our blind?
And when we take on all we need
We’ll move on to know for more to receive
And in this world it there’s so much green, leave it and astray
It’s not caning any better now, were all us can’t escape
And I feel we are too busy now, one next we cannot take
And when we take on all we need
We’ll move on to know for more to receive
And in this world it there’s so much green, leave it and astray
One simple thought, thought from the mind
Could change the world, change it tonight!
What do you feel when turn after life?
One simple thought, thought from our minds
Could change the world, make it all night!
What do you feel when turn after life?
When turn out the life?

Don’t you worry
Follow the signs
Leave the story
To the divine
Free yourself and
Say what’s true
Be Yourself though
You may be few
You can see straight into my soul
You know in hardship I change my goal
Now I realize
I was so unwise
Abandoned your advice
Face with your trial
Help was always near
If we persevered
If we held up just for a while
My life is empty without you
Nothing I’ve gained is without you
If you are pleased
My soul can breathe
Where would I be without you?
My heart now flees
These wordly dream
Yearning for mercy from you
Now I Realize
I was so unwise
Abandoned with your advice
Face with your trial
Help was always near
If we persevered
If we held up just for a while

Lyrics:
There is a reason why to Allah we pray
In the morning on every day
It’s a meeting and we must not be late
If we want to have peace we must obey and pray
There is no better feeling
Than when we pray on time
And we know the rest of our days
Will work out just fine
So we must work hard and wake up before sunrise
So we can leave our homes with the blessings of Allah
Idha hafadhta ‘alal salah
إذا حافظت على الصلاة
Hayatuka tumla’ baraka
حياتك تملئ بركة
Idha hafadhta ‘alal salah
إذا حافظت على الصلاة
Tanal ridhaa’ Allah
تنال رضى الله
If you maintained your prayers
Your life will be filled with blessings
If you prayed on time
Allah will be pleased with you
No excuses of why you cannot pray
Coz we need him on everyday
So don’t tell me just why you turned up late
If we want to have peace we must obey and pray
Idha hafadhta ‘alal salah
إذا حافظت على الصلاة
Hayatuka tumla’ baraka
حياتك تملئ بركة
Idha hafadhta ‘alal salah
إذا حافظت على الصلاة
Tanal ridhaa’ Allah
تنال رضى الله
If you maintained your prayers
Your life will be filled with blessings
If you prayed on time
Allah will be pleased with you
Listen brother and sister it’s all been said before
You’re too tired now so you sleep some more
But when you wake up there’s an emptiness inside
If we want to have peace we must swallow our pride
I know my friend it’s not easy
But we must try believe me
And we will feel a difference
In our lives and Allah will give us strength

There’s faith in my world
It comes back to your teachings and all your words
From your life I have learnt
To be patient and caring at every turn
The reason I’m strong
You’re where I belong
In a world spinning out of control
The reason for my pride
You are my guide
And I will always follow your way
Your way, your way, oh!
Chorus:
‘Alayka salla Allah O Muhammad
(May Allah’s salutations be upon you O Muhammad)
Peace & blessings on you every day
‘Alayka salla Allah O Muhammad
You inspire me in every way
I promise that wherever I go
Whenever I pray
I’ll be sending you praise
With the words that I say
Rasulallah (Messenger of Allah), O Muhammad
Peace & blessings on you every day
There’s light in my heart
Helps me find my way back when I’ve gone too far
When all my anger makes me blind
I remember you’re a mercy for all mankind
The reason I forgive as long as I live
In a world spinning out of control
The reason I love, I’ll never give up
And I will always follow your way
Your way, your way, oh!
I know the only thing I want from this life
And it’s to follow all your footsteps to Paradise
So that’s the way I’m going to spend all my time
Yes I swear, by Allah I swear!

I Believe (LYRICS)
When you’re searching for the light
And you see no hope in sight
Be sure and have no doubt
He’s always close to you
He’s the one who knows you best
He knows what’s in your heart
You’ll find your peace at last
If you just have faith in Him
You’re always in my heart and mind
Your name is mentioned every day
I’ll follow you no matter what
My biggest wish is to see you one day
Chorus:
I believe
I believe
Do you believe, oh do you believe?
Coz I believe
In a man who used to be
So full of love and harmony
He fought for peace and liberty
And never would he hurt anything
He was a mercy for mankind
A teacher till the end of time
No creature could be compared to him
So full of light and blessings
You’re always in my heart and mind
Your name is mentioned every day
I’ll follow you no matter what
If God wills we’ll meet one day
Chorus
If you lose your way
Believe in a better day
Trials will come
But surely they will fade away
If you just believe
What is plain to see
Just open your heart
And let His love flow through
I believe I believe, I believe I believe
And now I feel my heart is at peace
Chorus
I believe I believe, I believe I believe

“Medina” Lyrics:-
Medina, Medina
Medinatun Nabi (the city of the Prophet)
In my dreams I make my way to Medina
The home and chosen place
Of our beloved Prophet
Where all I feel is peace
And so much joy around
No better place for me, yeah!
Chorus:
Medina, Medina
Medinatun Nabi (the city of the Prophet)
Medina, Medina
That’s where I want to be
Medina, Medina
Medinatun Nabi
Medina, Medina
That’s where I want to be
Oh, oh, Medina Medina
Oh, oh, Medina Medina
I wake with the morning light in Medina
Everywhere I see blue skies
Set above these mountains
Bright colours fill the streets
A smile on every face
A special place for me, yeah!
CHORUS
Tala’al badru ‘alayna, min thaniyyatil wadaa’
Wajabash shukru ‘alayna, ma da’a lillahi daa’
Ayyuhal mab’uthu fina, ji’ta bil amril mutaa’
Ji’ta sharraftal Medina, marhaban ya khayra daa’
(The full Moon rose over us
From the valley of Wadaa’
And we owe it to show gratefulness
Whenever a caller prays to Allah
O you who were raised amongst us
Coming with the word to be obeyed
You have brought to Medina nobleness
Welcome, best caller to God’s way)

Lyrics:
O People!
In a hut made of tin and clay
A small boy dreams away
Of clean water and a meal a day
And not to fear mines as he plays each day
O People!
Somewhere dark and out of the way
AIDS has found yet another prey
To save his life he just couldn’t pay
Tell me what we’re going to do
For our brothers in Durban,
For our sisters in Darfur,
Show me what we’re going to do
Are we just going to sit there,
Nice and cowzy on our armchairs?
Will we not even make a prayer (2x)?
You might ask yourself:
“Why should I help these people?”
They’ll tell you why:
“We’re not so different from you.
We have dreams just like you,
But they were buried with the
Bodies of our loved ones.”
O People!
Are we dead, dumb, and blind?
What is going through our minds?
Don’t we care for the rest of mankind?
O People!
We claim to love peace and justice
Why do we preach but we don’t practice?
Let’s help them out of this darkness
Tell me what we’re going to do
For our brothers in Ethiopia,
For our sisters in Rwanda,
Show me what we’re going to do,
Are we just going to sit there
Nice and cozy on our armchairs?
Will we not even make a prayer (4x)?

“Why should I help these people?”
They’ll tell you why:
“We’re not so different from you.
We have dreams just like you,
But they were buried with the
Bodies of our loved ones.”
O People!
Are we dead, dumb, and blind?
What is going through our minds?
Don’t we care for the rest of mankind?
O People!
We claim to love peace and justice
Why do we preach but we don’t practice?
Let’s help them out of this darkness
Tell me what we’re going to do
For our brothers in Ethiopia,
For our sisters in Rwanda,
Show me what we’re going to do,
Are we just going to sit there
Nice and cozy on our armchairs?
Will we not even make a prayer (4x)?

Lyrics:
Give me your hand I will give you my heart
Every day is a brand new start
His words are here to help us through
Rasool Allah, peace and blessings on you!
Chorus:
Salatullah, salamullah
‘Ala Taha, Rasoolillah
Salatullah, salamullah
‘Ala Yasin, Habibillah
I’ve never seen you but I love you so
And in your footsteps I’ll try to follow
A smile you give may stop my fall, yeah!
The Bright moon rose a mercy on all!
CHORUS
Salla Allahu ‘ala Muhammad
Sallah Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam
Habibi ya Muhammad
CHORUS
Salla Allahu ‘ala Muhammad
Sallah Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam
Habibi ya Muhammad

Good life, good life
Allah I want to thank You for the good life
I want to wake up in the morning with the sun
Wear a smile, go out and have some fun
Going to take away the worries on my mind, oh
Put them to one side
‘Cause everyday is like a brand new story
With unwritten lines
And no matter the weather
It’s going, going to be alright
I know my life ain’t perfect
But I don’t have to worry
‘Cause I’ve got all that I need
Right here in my, in my life
I know my life ain’t perfect
But I like the way it’s going
‘Cause I’ve got all that I need
Right here in my, in my life
Thank You for the good life, good life
Allah I want to thank You for the good life
I leave it all in Your hands, oh
Thank You for the good life, good life
Allah I want to thank You for the good life
Hey, listen!
There are things in life that money just can’t buy
Happiness and love don’t have a price
All good people that surround me everyday, oh
I just appreciate
I love living in a brand new story,
With unwritten lines
And no matter the weather
It’s going, going to be alright
I know my life ain’t perfect
But I don’t have to worry
‘Cause I’ve got all that I need

Allah I want to thank You for the good life
It’s about being thankful and trying to understand
That the more I learn I want to leave it all in Your hands
‘Cause I know You’ll always take good of care of me
You’ve given me a good life, a good life each day
Good life, good life
Allah I want to thank You for the good life
Yes I want to thank You O Allah!
Thank You for the good life, good life

I’m So Sorry – Lyrics:
If my time would end today would I be ready to go?
And leave all the things I’ve worked so hard for
And all my friends and everyone I’ve known?
Never did I ever stop for a moment to think
Of what’s staring at me
I’ve been breaking all the mirrors of reality
Chorus:
I’m so sorry, if only I had just one last chance
I’m so sorry, but now it’s too late to change the past, oh
I lived my life in the fast lane, I only lived for today
And never, never really thought about anyone else
It was all about me, myself and I
Never did I ever stop for a moment to think
Of what’s staring at me
I’ve been breaking all the mirrors of reality, oh
Chorus
And now, now that it’s over
I wonder if anyone will remember me
If I had the chance to turn back the hands of time
There’re so many things that I would change
I’d live my life every single breath for You
Chorus
I’m so sorry, so sorry
Please forgive me
