Guiarte a Casa – Sami Yusuf
DESCRIPTION:
Composer Sami Yusuf’s mastery of musical languages dazzles in ‘L’Amour Vivant’.
The initial movement unfolds within the intricate geometry of the Baroque style,
a form that was imprinted on the composer’s soul during his upbringing in London
and that remains a cherished inspiration. From the start we hear the subtle
meeting of musical paths in the Arabic baladi rhythm that underlies the graceful melody.
The transition into the second movement transports the listeners to the heart of Sami Yusuf’s
other musical heritage, immersing them in the Central Asian Azerbaijani world.
The third movement revisits the Baroque sound before incorporating
the rich tonalities and nuanced rhythms of the Middle East and Persia,
seamlessly blending them into a sweeping soundscape.
The meditative sounds of the West African kora and the sensuous tones of the Chinese erhu then follow.
The final movement acts as a love letter to the world classical traditions encapsulated here,
skillfully weaving together the myriad emotions experienced throughout this journey in sound.
‘L’Amour Vivant’ is one of Sami Yusuf’s compositions from the second concert of his ‘When Paths Meet’ series.
It features The Sami Yusuf Ensemble, The Scoring Orchestra of Paris, The Métaboles,
and stellar soloists and specialist musicians in a stunning collaboration.
‘L’Amour Vivant’ is classical crossover at its most innovative.
Performed at the Paris Philharmonic.

DESCRIPTION:
Sami Yusuf’s composition ‘Veritas’ premiered at the Holland Festival in Amsterdam
as part of his concert series ‘When Paths Meet’.
From the minimal and ethereal sound of the intro,
it subtly transitions to a sense of awe at the astonishing majesty and multiplicity of creation.
The Persian-influenced musical phrasing of Sami Yusuf’s vocalisations
in the intro are inspired by the Daramad of Avaz-e dashti,
a subgroup of the Shur dastgah, a Persian modal system evocative of a meditative state.
Cappella Amsterdam sings quarter tones here and they do so brilliantly.
The flamenco and Andalusian sounds of the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra interplay
with Western classical elements and the vibrant Arabic maqam Bayati.
When the mode shifts to the passionate yearning of maqam Nahawand,
its similarity to the Western classical minor scale brings an effortless resonance between the two.
The outro joins Bayati and a harmonic minor scale in a multi-faceted,
fiery expression of multiple, even contradictory states of being,
while the vocalists insist,
‘Veritas’, ‘Veritas’ – Truth, Truth – and cast our focus beneath the turbulent surface storms
to the calm depths below.

DESCRIPTION:
‘Call My Name’ is a love song inspired by Ibn ‘Arabi. Full of metaphysical allusions,
the lyrics evoke a memory of the bliss of divine union, the time when we were “alone with the Alone”
in paradise before the Fall. But that union has given way to separation. The beloved seems distant,
and the heart of the lover cries out, seeking a return to that unity that was lost. Mystical and evocative,
‘Call My Name’ echoes the divine longing that is the very essence of love.

you better stand on your feet now. make it ruff ruff,
never get on you knees down. keep your head up,
let them know that you are the one whose flawless,
spread love, sing the chorus loud.

Lyrics:
(Translation and transliteration):
Teri meri dastaan
Maa ki dhadkan se hui shuru
Dhoondhthi rahi
Teri nishaani
Mil gayi har jagah
mujhe pukarthi
Mere rooh ki aabroo
Mere nabz ki junoon
Khoon mein samatha
Oh Rabba ye
Sangeeth mera…sangeeth mera…Sangeeth mera
Sangeeth mera…
Raag bani tu baarish ki boondhon se
Dhun nikli tu hawa ke jhonkon mein
Taal sikhayi tu Aag ki tadpthi Lau se
Sur nikli tu Koyal ki Har geet mein
Basthe ho tum
Khilthi hui hassi mein
Dhabi hui aahon mein
Chootathi pasino mein
Mohabbat ki raah mein
Jaadu hain Nasha hain tu
Sangeeth mera…Sangeeth mera
Saare zamane ki ek zabaan tu
Aur Duniyan ki ekta hain tu
Mere lafzo ki bayaan bhi tu

Mamma – Lyrics:
Every time I think of you
You always make me smile
Whenever I feel down
You know how to cheer me up
And every time I feel confused
And I don’t know which way to choose
One thing’s for sure
I can always count on you
When I am near or when I’m far
Or when I’m completely lost
In my heart I have no fear
‘Cause you’re my guiding star, oh
Chorus:
Mamma you know that I love you
No matter what I say or do
I can never thank you, oh
Mamma you know that I love you
You are the proof of what love can do
Truly you are God’s miracle, oh
You’re my shelter from the rain
You’re the shoulder I cry on
And whenever I feel pain
One touch from you and the pain is gone
And all I’ve ever dreamed to be
Is to make you proud of me
‘Cause never once
Did you turn your back on me
Your healing words, your tender touch
The warmth of your embrace
The beauty of your soul
Shine through your loving face, oh
CHORUS
Your name was the first word I’ve ever spoken
You held my hand through the first steps I’ve taken, oh
When I wasn’t well you watched me through the night
That is why Paradise is under your feet, oh
CHORUS

DESCRIPTION:
Acclaimed British composer Sami Yusuf brings the immensely popular
Moroccan folk song ‘Fiyyashiyya’ to a European audience in his stunning
new arrangement performed live at the Holland Festival.
An achingly eloquent solo improvisation on the Chinese erhu
by the world-renowned master Guo Gan opens the piece,
which then moves into a joyful call and response between Sami Yusuf
and the vocalists of Cappella Amsterdam. As the rhythm builds,
the Arabic lyrics sung by the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra
are answered in English by Cappella Amsterdam.
This innovative rendition captures the exuberant essence of
the North African folk sound just as it clearly captured the hearts
of the audience who are heard clapping and singing along.
Written by the Moroccan poet
Sidi Othman ibn Yahya Cherki (known as “Sidi Bahloul Cherki”) in the 17th century

There’s faith in my world
It comes back to your teachings and all your words
From your life I have learnt
To be patient and caring at every turn
The reason I’m strong
You’re where I belong
In a world spinning out of control
The reason for my pride
You are my guide
And I will always follow your way
Your way, your way, oh!
Chorus:
‘Alayka salla Allah O Muhammad
(May Allah’s salutations be upon you O Muhammad)
Peace & blessings on you every day
‘Alayka salla Allah O Muhammad
You inspire me in every way
I promise that wherever I go
Whenever I pray
I’ll be sending you praise
With the words that I say
Rasulallah (Messenger of Allah), O Muhammad
Peace & blessings on you every day
There’s light in my heart
Helps me find my way back when I’ve gone too far
When all my anger makes me blind
I remember you’re a mercy for all mankind
The reason I forgive as long as I live
In a world spinning out of control
The reason I love, I’ll never give up
And I will always follow your way
Your way, your way, oh!
I know the only thing I want from this life
And it’s to follow all your footsteps to Paradise
So that’s the way I’m going to spend all my time
Yes I swear, by Allah I swear!

Peace Be Upon You (Live and Acoustic) – Maher Zain
As we walk through these times
When you read between the lines
You’ll see
The road a little bit more
As our generation unfold
Some stories are never told
I fear
The doors will always be closed
So I say
Share the stories
Share the lines
Read the book, to open up your mind
Spread the message in and around the world
It’s a true day
A new way
The feeling that so deep inside
The faith in our heart will always rise
Now we aim to fly with the angels
So I’ll do my best in this life
The faith in my heart is where I start
There are mountains we climb
These things always take time
Believe
And you’ll achieve your goal
Do not idolize or sin
When you feel weak find a strength within
Stay clear
From those that will bring you down
So I say
Share the stories
Share the lines

The faith in my heart is where I start
It’s a true day
A new way
The feeling that so deep inside
The faith in our heart will always rise.

Mawlaya salli wa sallim da’iman abadan
‘Ala habibika khayril khalqi kullihimi
Ya Rabbee salli ‘aleeh
Salawatu Allahi ‘aleeh
All the poetry ever written
Every verse and every line
All the love songs in the world
Every melody and rhyme
If they were combined
They would still be unable to express
What I want to define
When I try to describe my love for you
Every sound and every voice
In every language ever heard
Each drop of ink that has been used
To write every single word
They could never portray
Everything I feel in my heart and want to say
And it’s hard to explain
Why I could never describe my love for you
There’s not a single person
Who can ever match his worth
In character and beauty
To ever walk on earth
I envy every rock and tree
And every grain of sand
That embraced his noble feet
Or that kissed his blessed hands
Ya Rasool Allah
Ya Habiba Allah
Grant us the chance to be with him
we pray to Allah

Mawlaya ( Forgive Me Album ) – Maher Zain
I pray to God my heart soul
Every single day of my life
With every breath I solemnly promise
To try to live my life for you
O Allah, You did revive my soul
And shone Your light into my heart
So pleasing You is now my only goal
Oh I love You so
I love You so (I love You so)
Now I know how it’s like
To have a precious love in my life
Now I know how it feels
To finally be at peace inside
I wish that everybody knew
How amazing it feels to love You
I wish that everyone could see
How Your love has set me free
Set me free and made me strong
O Allah, I’m forever grateful to You
Whatever I say could never be enough
You gave me strength to overcome my uncertainties
And stand firm against all the odds
You are the one who did revive my soul
You shone Your light into my heart
So pleasing You is now my only goal
Oh I love You so
I love You so (I love You so)
Now I know how it’s like
To have a precious love in my life
Now I know how it feels

How amazing it feels to love You

Set me free and made me strong
My love, my life, my days, my nights, my wealth, my prayers all for You
My love, my life, my days, my nights, my wealth, my prayers all for You
And I swear that I will never put anyone or anything before You

Bu yürek hep senle varolur yalniz senle coşar
Dile gelse tüm şiirler söylenmemiş şarkilar
Yine bendeki aşki anlatamazlar asla
Senden uzak olan gönüller dolar yasla
Sen aldığım nefes duyduğum ses aşk-i heves
Sensiz karanliklar aydinliğa eremez
İki cihanda sensin alemler efendisi
Şefaat eyle asla yalniz birakma bizi
Sen beklenen müjdelenen en kutlu peygamber
Sen merhamet ve şefkatinle bizlere rehber
Aşkinla hep çarpan yürekler nuruna muhtaç
Sen ruhlarin tabibi gönüllere ilaç

Lament (Live at the Dubai Opera) – Sami Yusuf
In a world full of confusion
Where we walk with pain in our hearts
O Allah guide us to heaven and show us all the right path
We pray that He’ll forgive us and tears forever fall
Looking for a happy ever after when we are gone
I can be free nobody’s holding me
I’m on the road to be
Where Allah is pleased with me.
We can be free
When we believe it
بالإيمان تصفو لنا الحياة
We can be free
When we believe it
نحيا في دنيانا بحب الله
Little children with smiles on their faces
Wake up each day by saying His name
O Allah show us your mercy and brighten all of our day’s
Your words were sent to release us
From the jaws of evil and hate
You’re the master of all existence you hold our fate.
I can be free nobody’s holding me
I’m on the road to be
Where Allah is pleased with me.
We can be free
When we believe it

“By My Side” Lyrics:-
Sometimes I can’t see
Where I’m supposed to go
Sometimes I speed up,
When I should take it slow
But through all my hard times
When I lose my way
You’re concealing my mistakes, yeah!
Pre-Chorus:
I know You’re always by my side
Never turning out Your light
When I need You most Your stars will shine
Chorus:
When I’m out there in the darkest place
Worn and tired
I can still see You illuminate
All my skies
When it feels like I’ve fallen too far from You
There You, there You, there You are
Guiding me through
Whenever I feel down
You can lift me up
Turning my life around
With Your love
No matter how rough it gets
I can wear a smile
‘Cause Your mercy never dries
I know You’re always by my side
Never turning out Your light
When I need You most Your stars will shine
PRE-CHORUS & CHORUS
Ain’t nobody, no no nobody
That knows me like You do
Ain’t nobody who makes me feel this way
Got no worries, no no worries
About anything
Cause I know You’re always there, oh

Ya Rabbi Ya Ghafur
يا ربي يا غفور
Ya ‘Alimu Ya Shakur
يا عليم يا شكور
Oh my Sustainer, Oh Off-Forgiving One!
Oh All-Knowing One, Oh Most Grateful One!
Allif baina qulubina
ألف بين قلوبنا
Aslih dhata bainina
أصلح ذات بيننا
Bring our hearts close together
Mend our relationships
What makes you sigh?
My father said to me
Saw you walking by
And keeping it from me
I do care, I do care
Come sit with me
Tell me what’s on your mind
I know how it can be
I also was a child
Don’t despair, don’t despair
Allif baina qulubina
ألف بين قلوبنا
Aslih dhata bainina
أصلح ذات بيننا
Bring our hearts close together
Mend our relationships
How can I tell you about
All that I feel
You would only start to shout
Make a big deal
And I’m beginning to doubt
If my wounds will heal
You’re right, I’m wrong, always the same
No one, really, knows of my pain
Ya Rabbi Ya Ghafur
يا ربي يا غفور
Ya ‘Alimu Ya Shakur
يا عليم يا شكور
Oh my Sustainer, Oh Off-Forgiving One!
Oh All-Knowing One, Oh Most Grateful One!
Allif baina qulubina
ألف بين قلوبنا
Aslih dhata bainina
أصلح ذات بيننا
Bring our hearts close together
Mend our relationships
I never knew
You felt this way
Sometimes I’s true
You had no say
My hopes for you
Made me walk by
I left no room
To let you try
I’d not realized
How much you’d grown
To make mistakes
I’m also prone
Ya Rabbi Ya Ghafur
يا ربي يا غفور
Ya ‘Alimu Ya Shakur
يا عليم يا شكور
Oh my Sustainer, Oh Off-Forgiving One!
Oh All-Knowing One, Oh Most Grateful One!
Allif baina qulubina

I thought I was the only one
Who felt this pain
Who felt so wronged
I thought you didn’t really care
But now I know I was unfair
Without you I would never be
The person I have come to be
Allif baina qulubina

DESCRIPTION:
Experience the beauty and unity of diverse musical traditions with Sami Yusuf’s
latest release, ‘One.’ Recorded live at the Holland Festival in June 2022,
this piece showcases exceptional artistry from Cappella Amsterdam,
the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra, and Sami Yusuf’s own ensemble.
Composed and arranged by Sami Yusuf,
‘One’ is a stunning blend of Western European vocal performance and the dynamic
rhythms of Andalusian, North African and Middle Eastern instruments including the ney,
violin, qanun, santur and percussions.
The German words by Meister Eckhart and Arabic poetry by Abu al-Hasan al-Shushtari
speak of the Eternal I and the unity of vision, emphasising the separate beauty of
each path and their underlying unity.
Performed in E Flat with allusions to maqām Nahāwand,
‘One’ opens with Cappella Amsterdam’s hauntingly beautiful vocals,
transitioning to the richly textured and dynamic rhythms of Amsterdam
Andalusian Orchestra, culminating in a mesmerising santur and percussion performance
by Sami Yusuf’s ensemble.
‘One’ invites you to experience the oneness of the human spirit in art.

Ei-duniay (…in this world)
Who made the clouds come by
So we can live and be?
Sending rain so soft and mild
Cleansing you and me?
Who gave me clear eyes to see
The moon when it beams?
He taught me how silent love can be
A road to your dreams
Who taught the mothers of the world
To love us the way they do?
When all the trials unfurl
All they think of is you
You still make me cry
You still make me laugh
Don’t let me ever forget
About our golden past
And so the world moves on its way
Newcomers join every day
Tomorrow they will say…

“Medina” Lyrics:-
Medina, Medina
Medinatun Nabi (the city of the Prophet)
In my dreams I make my way to Medina
The home and chosen place
Of our beloved Prophet
Where all I feel is peace
And so much joy around
No better place for me, yeah!
Chorus:
Medina, Medina
Medinatun Nabi (the city of the Prophet)
Medina, Medina
That’s where I want to be
Medina, Medina
Medinatun Nabi
Medina, Medina
That’s where I want to be
Oh, oh, Medina Medina
Oh, oh, Medina Medina
I wake with the morning light in Medina
Everywhere I see blue skies
Set above these mountains
Bright colours fill the streets
A smile on every face
A special place for me, yeah!
CHORUS
Tala’al badru ‘alayna, min thaniyyatil wadaa’
Wajabash shukru ‘alayna, ma da’a lillahi daa’
Ayyuhal mab’uthu fina, ji’ta bil amril mutaa’
Ji’ta sharraftal Medina, marhaban ya khayra daa’
(The full Moon rose over us
From the valley of Wadaa’
And we owe it to show gratefulness
Whenever a caller prays to Allah
O you who were raised amongst us
Coming with the word to be obeyed
You have brought to Medina nobleness
Welcome, best caller to God’s way)
CHORUS
Medina, Medina

A smile on every face
A special place for me, yeah!
CHORUS
Tala’al badru ‘alayna, min thaniyyatil wadaa’
Wajabash shukru ‘alayna, ma da’a lillahi daa’
Ayyuhal mab’uthu fina, ji’ta bil amril mutaa’
Ji’ta sharraftal Medina, marhaban ya khayra daa’
(The full Moon rose over us
From the valley of Wadaa’
And we owe it to show gratefulness
Whenever a caller prays to Allah
O you who were raised amongst us
Coming with the word to be obeyed
You have brought to Medina nobleness
Welcome, best caller to God’s way)
CHORUS
Medina, Medina

Lyrics:
I hear the flowers kind of crying loud
The breeze is sounding sad, oh no
Tell me when did we become so cold and empty inside
Lost our way long time ago
Did we really turn that blind?
We don’t see that we keep hurting each other no
All we do is just fight
Now we share the same bright sun
The same round moon
Why don’t we share the same love?
Tell me why not
Life is shorter than most had thought
Chorus:
Hold my hand
There are many ways to do it right
Hold my hand
Turn around and see what we’ve left behind
Hold my hand my friend
We could save the good spirit in me and you
For another chance
And let’s pray for the beautiful world
The beautiful world I share with you
Children seem like they’ve lost their smile
On the new bloody play grounds, oh no
How could we ignore heart breaking crying sounds
And we’re still going on like nobody really cares
And we just stopped feeling all the pain we cause
Like it’s a daily basic affair
Now we share the same bright sun
The same round moon
Why don’t we share the same love?
Tell me why not
Life is shorter than most had thought
Chorus
No matter how far I might be
I’m always going to be your neighbour
There’s only one small planet where to be
So I’m always going to be your neighbour
We cannot hide, we can’t deny
That we’re always going to be neighbours
Your neighbour, my neighbour, we’re neighbours
Chorus

Lyrics:
I wonder why you and me fight each other
Don’t you see the similarities between us?
Take a minute and see yourself in the mirror
You look like me, those eyes, lips, you can’t deny
Have you thought about why we look the same?
Why we feel the same?
Don’t tell me it’s by chance
Oh, you’re my brother, you’re my sister
We’re one big family
Oh, you’re my brother, you’re my sister
Just one big family
It doesn’t matter if you live far away from me
You feel I feel, you bleed I bleed, you cry and I cry
We sleep and dream
Sometimes we’re sad sometimes we’re happy
You breathe I breathe
We love, walk, talk and we smile
Have you thought about why we look the same?
Why we feel the same?
Don’t tell me it’s by chance
Oh, you’re my brother, you’re my sister
We’re one big family
Oh, you’re my brother, you’re my sister
Just one big family, family
I care about you and i wish you could realize
There’s no difference between us two
we’re part of one family
No matter how far you are are
And even if we don’t know each other
Oh, you and me, me and you, we are one
Oh, you’re my brother, you’re my sister

You are the way
The way of love
Chosen to teach us the words of Allah
Mercy and kindness
And hope for everyone
Peace be upon you
O Muhammad!
Chorus:
You are the light
The guide of all life
You’re the essence of beauty
The best of mankind
Forever you’ll be
The source of all truth
Peace be upon you
O Muhammad!
Even though I
Can’t see your face
Your presence
Is always all around me
Your name’s on mind every single day
Peace be upon you
O Muhammad!

Every time I close my eyes I see you in front of me
I still can hear your voice calling out my name
And I remember all the stories you told me
I miss the time you were around
I miss the time you were around
But I’m so grateful for every moment I spent with you
‘Cause I know life won’t last forever
You went so soon, so soon
You left so soon, so soon
I have to move on ’cause I know it’s been too long
I’ve got to stop the tears, keep my faith and be strong
I’ll try to take it all, even though it’s so hard
I see you in my dreams but when I wake up you are gone
Gone so soon
Night and day, I still feel you are close to me
And I remember you in every prayer that I make
Every single day may you be shaded by His mercy
But life is not the same, and it will never be the same
But I’m so thankful for every memory I shared with you
‘Cause I know this life is not forever
You went so soon, so soon
You left so soon, so soon
I have to move on ’cause I know it’s been too long
I’ve got to stop the tears, keep my faith and be strong
I’ll try to take it all, even though it’s so hard
I see you in my dreams but when I wake up you are gone
There were days when I had no strength to go on
I felt so weak and I just couldn’t help asking: “Why?”
But I got through all the pain when I truly accepted
That to God we all belong, and to Him we’ll return, ooh
You went so soon, so soon
You left so soon, so soon
I have to move on ’cause I know it’s been too long
I’ve got to stop the tears, keep my faith and be strong
I’ll try to take it all, even though it’s so hard

Who is the Loved One? Allah
Who is Ar-Rahman? Allah
Who is al-Mannan?

La ilaha illa Allah
Muhammadun Rasulu Allah,
Muhammad is the Messenger
To Allah is our return
La illaha illa Allah
Muhammadun Rasulu Allah [x2]
Allah; Allah;

All praise is due to
The One and the Only
He is the Master
Of all creation [x2]
He’s the Sustainer
And the Maintainer
Of the whole universe
[Chorus]
He gave us life
He gave us light [x2]
He sent to guide us

Who is al Basir? Allah
Who is al Khabir?
[Chorus]
Any one who fails
To see all the signs
Of His existence
That He has spread around
Will be completely blind
Walking in the desert sands
Having no peace of mind
Who is the Loved One? Allah
Who is al-Majid? Allah
Who is al-Hamid?

From East to West the Light of His Word does shine,
For It issues from that central Pole Divine,
Which is neither to the East nor the West confined,
And yet both East and West in Its Light unites.

Which is neither to the East nor the West confined,
And yet both East and West in Its Light unites.
