Why – 1001 Inventions and the World of Ibn Al-Haytham
[Chorus]
Hayya ‘ibad Allah
(Come O servants of Allah)
حي عباد الله
Ahibba Allah
(O you who love Allah)
أحباء الله
Sallu ‘ala an-Nabi
(Send salutations to the Prophet)
صلوا على النبي
On a clear and moonlit night
In the dark cave of Hira
A man began to cry
Oh Allah show me the light
Tell me why I was created
Where will I go after I die?
What’s the purpose of this life
Where people murder and lie?
How can I stop their corruption?
Oh Allah You’re my only Guide.
Ya Habibi ya Mustafa
(O my beloved O Chosen One)
يا حبيبي يا مصطفى
Ya Rasula Allah ya Habiba Allah ya Safiyya Allah
(O Messenger of Allah, O Beloved of Allah,
O Intimate of Allah)
يا رسول الله ، يا حبيب الله ، يا صفي الله
Ya Habibi ya Mustafa
(O my beloved O Chosen One)
يا حبيبي يا مصطفى
Anta gharami, dhikruk kalami, kulla ayyami
(You are the object of my love,
your remembrance are the only words I speak throughout my days)
أنت غرامي ، ذكرك كلامي ، كل أيامي
On that clear and blessed night
Jibra’il came to Hira
He hugged Prophet Muhammad
Until he thought he would die
Read O Muhammad read
In the name of your Lord
By Allah you’ve been chosen
Over the whole of mankind
You’ve been elevated high
Like the moon up in the sky
[Chorus]
Ya Yasin Ya Khalil Allah
Ya Amin Ya Najiyya Allah
Ya Makin Ya Shahid Allah
Ya Mukhtar Ya Hafiyya Allah
Ya Taha Ya Habiba Allah
(All names of the Prophet (pbuh))
[Chorus]
He’s a mercy for mankind
His speech was gentle and kind
He summoned people to Allah
And led them on his path
Mankind lived in the darkness
Everyone alive was just blind
His message brought the light
To the hearts that had no sight
In mercy he’s the ocean
While others are drops of rain.
Ya Habibi ya Mustafa
Ya Rasula Allah ya habiba Allah ya Safiyya Allah
Ya Habibi ya Mustafa
Anta gharami, dhikruk kalami, kulla ayyami
Forever we’ll be indebted
To him for this Islam
Our life for him we’ll give
His message with us will live
Our love for him knows no bounds
It is loftier than the clouds
Whenever his name is mentioned
Our tears begin to flow
Oh Allah send your blessings
On al Mustafa
Ya Habibi ya Mustafa
Anta gharami, dhikruk kalami, kulla ayyami
Ya Habibi ya Mustafa
Ya Rasula Allah ya Habiba Allah ya Safiyya Allah
Ya Habibi ya Mustafa
Ya Nabiyya Allah, ya Waliyya Allah, ya Khalil Allah
[Chorus]

Lyrics:
YOU CAME TO ME IN THAT HOUR OF NEED
WHEN I WAS SO LOST, SO LONELY
YOU CAME TO ME TOOK MY BREATH AWAY
SHOWED ME THE RIGHT WAY, THE WAY TO LEAD
YOU FILLED MY HEART WITH LOVE
SHOWED ME THE LIGHT ABOVE
NOW ALL I WANT IS TO BE WITH YOU
YOU ARE MY ONE TRUE LOVE
TAUGHT ME TO NEVER JUDGE
NOW ALL I WANT IS TO BE WITH YOU
(CHORUS)
ALLAHUMA SALLI ‘ALA SAYIDEENA MUSTAFA
‘ALAA HABEEBIKA NABIEEKA MUSTAFA
DIKAU HADIR KALA KU SEDIH SENDIRIAN DAN HILANG
DIKAU HADIR KALA AKU MENDAMBAKAN PETUNJUK JALAN
FOR YOU I’D SACRIFICE
FOR YOU I’D GIVE MY LIFE
ANYTHING, JUST TO BE WITH YOU
I FEEL SO LOST AT TIMES
BY ALL THE HURT AND LIES
NOW ALL I WANT IS TO BE WITH YOU
(CHORUS)
ALLAHUMA SALLI ‘ALA SAYIDEENA MUSTAFA
‘ALAA HABEEBIKA NABIEEKA MUSTAFA
SHOWED RIGHT FROM WRONG
TAUGHT ME TO BE STRONG
NEED YOU MORE THAN EVER
YA RASUL ALLAH
TELAH KAU DATANG

You Came To Me – Sami Yusuf feat. Dato’ Siti Nurhaliza
About the Performance
Sami Yusuf’s instrumental composition ‘The Meeting’ is an intimate
and deeply personal work. Direct and non-linear, the melodies,
rhythms and vocalisations sustain and support
one another flawlessly as the music moves fluidly between the Western
aeolian mode and the Persian dastgah shur. Solos by Sami Yusuf on tar,
Guo Gan on erhu, and Asad Khan on sitar circle each other
to create an embracing ambience where each melodic line is a subtle gem,
strong and fragile in equal measure.

Lyrics:
It’s so hard to explain
What I’m feeling
But I guess it’s ok
Cause I’ll keep believing
There’s something deep inside
Something that’s calling
It’s calling you and I
It’s taking us up high
Healing, a simple act of kindness bring such meaning
A smile can change a life let’s start believing
And feeling, let’s start healing
Heal and you will be healed
Break every border
Give and you will receive
It’s nature’s order
There is a hidden force
Pulling us closer
It’s pulling you and I
It’s pulling us up high to…
Healing, a simple act of kindness brings such meaning
A smile can change a life lets start believing
And feeling, let’s start healing
Hearts in the hand of another heart and in God’s hand are all hearts
An eye takes care of another eye and from God’s eye nothing hides
Seek only to give and you’ll receive
So, heal and you will be healed

DESCRIPTION:
Sami Yusuf’s composition ‘Veritas’ premiered at the Holland Festival in Amsterdam
as part of his concert series ‘When Paths Meet’.
From the minimal and ethereal sound of the intro,
it subtly transitions to a sense of awe at the astonishing majesty and multiplicity of creation.
The Persian-influenced musical phrasing of Sami Yusuf’s vocalisations
in the intro are inspired by the Daramad of Avaz-e dashti,
a subgroup of the Shur dastgah, a Persian modal system evocative of a meditative state.
Cappella Amsterdam sings quarter tones here and they do so brilliantly.
The flamenco and Andalusian sounds of the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra interplay
with Western classical elements and the vibrant Arabic maqam Bayati.
When the mode shifts to the passionate yearning of maqam Nahawand,
its similarity to the Western classical minor scale brings an effortless resonance between the two.
The outro joins Bayati and a harmonic minor scale in a multi-faceted,
fiery expression of multiple, even contradictory states of being,
while the vocalists insist,
‘Veritas’, ‘Veritas’ – Truth, Truth – and cast our focus beneath the turbulent surface storms
to the calm depths below.

‘Shirvanshah’s Palace’, a new instrumental work from Sami Yusuf, features a 57-member
orchestra and dazzling solos on oud, kamanche, tar and balaban.
The musical narrative is majestic, powerful and intensely beautiful.
This piece is performed in Shur mugham [Əbu Əta], evoking an ecstatic mood that
echoes the Sufi ceremony of remembrance.
Although the sub-mode Əbu Əta (Or Abū ’Atā) is seldom used in recent decades,
it has been part of the Azerbaijani mugham system for centuries. The composer has chosen
to honor this particular traditional expression here, and in doing so seeks
to contribute to the revival of this complex musical language.
Shirvanshah’s Palace is a 15th century complex in Baku where the revered philosopher and sage,
Seyid Yahya Bakuvi, taught and prayed and where his tomb is located.
Performed live at the Opening Ceremony of the 43rd World Heritage Committee held in Baku,
Azerbaijan on 30th June, 2019.

This powerful new composition begins with the haunting and resonant vocalizations of Sami Yusuf,
then adds instrumental, rhythmic, and vocal layers to create an epic unison section
that evokes the many-faceted aspects of the arc of Azerbaijan’s history. This piece features
stunning vocal solos by Sevda Alekperzadeh, Tayyar Bayramov, Samira Aliyeva, and a beautiful tar solo

The opening sounds of this dramatic new composition by Sami Yusuf carry
the eternal message of wind and stones, with anchoring vocalization by Emin Mammadov.
Shur mugham elements are then introduced through the astonishing voice of Kanan Bayramli.
The sweeping melody conveys the majesty of place and the weight of time.
Rising above the Caspian Sea, Gobustan’s boulders contain six thousand ancient stone carvings,
messages left by our human ancestors over twenty thousand years ago.
They speak to us not just of another time, but of another way of being.
One remarkable feature of Gobustan are its stone drums, an ancient means of communicating
across distance (like a Stone Age text message).
The sound of these stone drums are incorporated into this extraordinary piece.
