Muhammad Part 2 (Bonus Track) – Sami Yusuf
You, you’re not aware
That we’re aware
Of your despair
Don’t show your tears
To your oppressor
Don’t show your tears
Try not to cry little one
You’re not alone
I’ll stand by you
Try not to cry little one
My heart is your stone
I’ll throw with you
‘Ayn Jalut where David slew Goliath
This very same place that we be at
Passing through the sands of times
This land’s been the victim of countless crimes
From Crusaders and Mongols
to the present aggression
Then the Franks, now even a crueller oppression
If these walls could speak,
imagine what would they say
For me in this path that I walk on
there’s only one way
Bullets may kill, bones may break
Still I throw stones like David before me and I say
You, you’re not aware
That we’re aware
Of your despair
Your nightmares will end
This I promise, I promise
No llores, no pierdas la fe
La sed la calma el que haze
Agua de la arena
Y tu que te levantas con orgullo entre las piedras
Haz hecho mares de este polvo
Don’t cry, don’t lose faith
The one who made water come out of the sand
Is the one who quenches the thirst
And you who rise proud from between the stones
Have made oceans from this dust
I throw stones at my eyes
’cause for way too long they’ve been dry
Plus they see what they shouldn’t from oppressed babies to thighs
I throw stones at my tongue
’cause it should really keep its peace
I throw stones at my feet
’cause they stray and lead to defeat
A couple of big ones at my heart
’cause the thing is freezing cold
But my nafs is still alive
and kicking unstoppable and on a roll
I throw bricks at the devil so I’ll be sure to hit him
But first at the man in the mirror
so I can chase out the venom
Hmm, a little boy shot in the head
Just another kid sent out to get some bread
Not the first murder nor the last
Again and again a repetition of the past
Since the very first day same story
Young ones, old ones, some glory
How can it be, has the whole world turned blind?
Or is it just ’cause it’s only affecting my kind?!
If these walls could speak,
imagine what would they say
For me in this path that I walk on
there’s only one way
Bullets may kill, bones may break
Still I throw stones like David before me and I say
You, you’re not aware

Try Not to Cry – Sami Yusuf ( feat. Outlandish )
Wanderer’s Lyrics :
In my mind
Foreign lands
Followed lines
On my hands
Tasted earth
Touched the skies
Swam the pools
Of my eyes
People talked
In their fear
Rumours always
Whispered here
Where and why,
From what shore
Who was I
Searching for
You can call me worshipper
You can call me follower
But I’m just a wanderer
In search of my lover
You can call it foolish
A kind of madness
But I’m just a wanderer
In search of my lover
Pushed and pulled
Through these worlds
Winding roads
I crossed & curled
Pain & love
Hope & fear
In between
All unclear
Drunk on time,
Spin my thoughts
States of mind
Turning doors
Ask me now
Who I am
Turn your back
Take my hand
You can call me worshipper
You can call me follower
But I’m just a wanderer
In search of my lover
You can call it foolish
A kind of madness
But I’m just a wanderer
In search of my lover
There’s a fire calling me
Burning me
Leading me
Into ecstasy
You can call me worshipper
You can call me follower
But I’m just a wanderer
In search of my lover
You can call it foolish
A kind of madness
But I’m just a wanderer
In search of my lover
[Round round round round round round round round]

Lyrics:
Every day I see the same headlines
Crimes committed in the name of the divine
People committing atrocities in his name
They murder and kidnap with no shame
But did he teach hatred, violence, or bloodshed? No… Oh No
He taught us about human brotherhood
And against prejudice he firmly stood
He loved children, their hands he’d hold
And taught his followers to respect the old
So would he allow the murder of an innocent child? Oh No…
Muhammad ya rasulallah
Muhammad ya habiballah
Muhammad ya khalilallah
Muhammad
Muhammad ya rasulallah
Muhammad ya shafi’allah
Muhammad ya bashirallah
Ya rasulallah
Muhammad the light of my eyes
About you they spread many lies
If only they came to realise
Bloodshed you despise

Lyrics:
TO SEE YOU SMILE
GIVE IT ALL AWAY
SIGHT OF YOUR SMILE
SO PURE AND WIDE
JUST LIKE THE MOON IN THE SKY
SHINING SO BRIGHT
YOU GIVE ME STRENGTH
YOU GIVE ME LIFE
GIVE EVERYTHING DO ANYTHING
WHATEVER IT’LL TAKE, TO SEE YOUR SMILE
I KNOW THAT I DON’T DESERVE YOU
AND MY LIFE HAS MEANING ‘CAUSE OF YOU
GIVE IT ALL AWAY TO SEE YOUR SMILE
I KNOW THAT I DON’T DESERVE YOU
EVERY SONG I SING HAS ALWAYS BEEN FOR YOU
GIVE IT ALL AWAY, TO SEE YOUR SMILE
SIGHT OF YOUR SMILE
SO PURE AND WIDE
AS YOU WELCOME ME BACK INTO YOUR ARMS
TELL ME I’VE WRONGED BUT IT’S ALRIGHT, IT’S ALRIGHT
THE ONLY THING I NEED IN LIFE IS YOU
SO LOST AND FRUSTRATED FAR FROM YOU
YOUR LOVE IS WHAT MAKES IT ALL WORTHWHILE
GIVE EVERYTHING AWAY, ANYTHING FOR YOUR SMILE
WHEN I’M AWAY
FAR FROM YOUR SIDE
I WATCH THE CLOUDS
COME AND GO IN THE COLD NIGHT SKY
THEY START TO PLAY
THEY COME TO LIFE
AND FROM THE DARK THE MOON APPEARS
JUST LIKE YOUR SMILE SHE SHINES HER LIGHT
I KNOW THAT I DON’T DESERVE YOU
AND MY LIFE HAS MEANING ‘CAUSE OF YOU

The Persian Nightingale – Sami Yusuf
This is an original instrumental composition in Bayāt-e Shīrāz mugham whose joyous melody is carried from the balaban and kemanche solos to the layered sounds of the orchestra. This piece celebrates the art of movement, an art that tells many stories and reveals the inner world of a culture.

موسيقى ١ ( البوم فك الكلابش ) – محمد عباس
‘Shirvanshah’s Palace’, a new instrumental work from Sami Yusuf, features a 57-member
orchestra and dazzling solos on oud, kamanche, tar and balaban.
The musical narrative is majestic, powerful and intensely beautiful.
This piece is performed in Shur mugham [Əbu Əta], evoking an ecstatic mood that
echoes the Sufi ceremony of remembrance.
Although the sub-mode Əbu Əta (Or Abū ’Atā) is seldom used in recent decades,
it has been part of the Azerbaijani mugham system for centuries. The composer has chosen
to honor this particular traditional expression here, and in doing so seeks
to contribute to the revival of this complex musical language.
Shirvanshah’s Palace is a 15th century complex in Baku where the revered philosopher and sage,
Seyid Yahya Bakuvi, taught and prayed and where his tomb is located.
Performed live at the Opening Ceremony of the 43rd World Heritage Committee held in Baku,
Azerbaijan on 30th June, 2019.

The vocal and instrumental drones of this meditative piece in Shustar mugham resonate with echoes of Indian rags
and Middle East maqams. Featuring the vibrant voice of Sami Yusuf, its aim is to immerse the
listener’s spirit in contemplation.
Ateshgah, The Fire Temple, is an 18th century structure in Baku that speaks of the land’s Zoroastrian past.

About the Performance
Sami Yusuf’s instrumental composition ‘The Meeting’ is an intimate
and deeply personal work. Direct and non-linear, the melodies,
rhythms and vocalisations sustain and support
one another flawlessly as the music moves fluidly between the Western
aeolian mode and the Persian dastgah shur. Solos by Sami Yusuf on tar,
Guo Gan on erhu, and Asad Khan on sitar circle each other
to create an embracing ambience where each melodic line is a subtle gem,
strong and fragile in equal measure.

The Meeting (Live at the Holland Festival) – Sami Yusuf
DESCRIPTION:
Sami Yusuf’s composition ‘Veritas’ premiered at the Holland Festival in Amsterdam
as part of his concert series ‘When Paths Meet’.
From the minimal and ethereal sound of the intro,
it subtly transitions to a sense of awe at the astonishing majesty and multiplicity of creation.
The Persian-influenced musical phrasing of Sami Yusuf’s vocalisations
in the intro are inspired by the Daramad of Avaz-e dashti,
a subgroup of the Shur dastgah, a Persian modal system evocative of a meditative state.
Cappella Amsterdam sings quarter tones here and they do so brilliantly.
The flamenco and Andalusian sounds of the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra interplay
with Western classical elements and the vibrant Arabic maqam Bayati.
When the mode shifts to the passionate yearning of maqam Nahawand,
its similarity to the Western classical minor scale brings an effortless resonance between the two.
The outro joins Bayati and a harmonic minor scale in a multi-faceted,
fiery expression of multiple, even contradictory states of being,
while the vocalists insist,
‘Veritas’, ‘Veritas’ – Truth, Truth – and cast our focus beneath the turbulent surface storms
to the calm depths below.

Barakah – Sami Yusuf
The opening sounds of this dramatic new composition by Sami Yusuf carry
the eternal message of wind and stones, with anchoring vocalization by Emin Mammadov.
Shur mugham elements are then introduced through the astonishing voice of Kanan Bayramli.
The sweeping melody conveys the majesty of place and the weight of time.
Rising above the Caspian Sea, Gobustan’s boulders contain six thousand ancient stone carvings,
messages left by our human ancestors over twenty thousand years ago.
They speak to us not just of another time, but of another way of being.
One remarkable feature of Gobustan are its stone drums, an ancient means of communicating
across distance (like a Stone Age text message).
The sound of these stone drums are incorporated into this extraordinary piece.

The opening sounds of this dramatic new composition by Sami Yusuf carry
the eternal message of wind and stones, with anchoring vocalization by Emin Mammadov.
Shur mugham elements are then introduced through the astonishing voice of Kanan Bayramli.
