The Fire Within (Live at the Holland Festival)
DESCRIPTION:
Sami Yusuf’s composition ‘The Fire Within’ evokes the flame of love
that burns in the hearts of seekers everywhere.
This rich musical tapestry weaves together mystical strands of music and poetry
as it moves seamlessly from the aeolian sound of European choral music
to Andalusian modes to Middle Eastern scales.
Here we hear the voice of each tradition clearly articulated
as in an intricate conversation with one another.
Layer upon layer of melodies and rhythms serve to clarify the composer’s vision
and to lead the listener inward to a place of knowing beyond words.
Lyrics are drawn from mystical poets: Kaygusuz Abdal (Turkish lyrics),
Hildegard von Bingen (Latin lyrics),
Mansur ibn al-Hallaj and Abu al-Hasan al-Shushtari (Arabic lyrics).
Performed by Cappella Amsterdam, The Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra,
and Sami Yusuf’s ensemble.

Lyrics:
Softly you called to me
Out from the space between
Out from eternity
Where love winds a path unseen
Out of the wilderness
You beckoned my every step
I stumbled sometimes and yet
I never once looked back
Cause I would see
The man I know I used to be
How I was lost before you reached for me
And I don’t know
Where I would go
What I would do
Without you
Eser bir yel, dağılır sis
Ne iz bırakır ne bir giz
Yine o derin, dipsiz
O şefkatle affeden
Evvelim, şimdim, ahirim
Benim Sevgili sahibim
Bir okula misafirim
Mezuniyet bekleyen
So you might see
Just what your love has meant to me
And what the cost of losing you would be
No I don’t know
Where I would go or what I’d do
Without you
My heart won’t beat
Without your love in me
My eyes won’t see
Beauty without thee
Loves melody that you put in me
Would lead me to only
Silence without you
Cause I would see
The man I know I used to be
How I was lost before you reached for me
And I don’t know
Where I would go
What I would do
Without you

“Ummati” Lyrics:
Shining bright you came to us
With a heart so full of love
And you showed that you’re
The one who cares the most
And to us you’ve always been so close
Everyone will say
Please save me
Except Al-Habib (the beloved)
Chorus:
أمتي، أمتي
Ummati, Ummati
(My nation, my nation)
يقولها لنا يوم القيامة
Yaquluha lana yawmal qiyamati
(He will say to us on the Day of Judgement)
أمتي، أمتي
Ummati, Ummati
(My nation, my nation)
يقولها شفاعة
Yaquluha shafa’atan
(He will say as an intercession)
أنا لها، أنا لها
Ana laha ana laha
(“I will do it, I will do it” [to intercede to God on behalf of his nation])
You have always sacrificed
Smiled with patience through the hard times
All you did inspired everyone you knew
Always selfless, striving for the truth
Everyone will say
Please save me
Except Al-Habib (the beloved)
CHORUS
Muhammadun
I’d give my heart and soul for you
Wish my eyes can see your face and be close to you
Coz in your guidance I find peace of mind indeed
No on else on that day can intercede

Lyrics :
Every time
You feel like you cannot go on
You feel so lost and that you’re so alone
All you see is night
And darkness all around
You feel so helpless you can’t see which way to go
Don’t despair
And never lose hope
‘Cause Allah is always by your side
Chorus:
Insha Allah
Insha Allah
Insha Allah
You’ll find your way
Every time
You commit one more mistake
You feel you can’t repent and that it’s way too late
You’re so confused
Wrong decisions you have made
Haunt your mind and your heart is full shame
But don’t despair
And never lose hope
‘Cause Allah is always by your side
Chorus
InshaAllah
InshaAllah
InshaAllah
We’ll find the way
Turn to Allah
He’s never far away
Put your trust in Him
Raise your hands and pray
Ooh ya Allah
Guide my steps, don’t let me go astray
You’re the only one who can show me the way
Show me the way
Show me the way
Show me the way
InshaAllah
InshaAllah
InshaAllah
We’ll find the way

I was so far from you
Yet to me you were always so close
I wandered lost in the dark
I closed my eyes toward the signs
You put in my way
I walked everyday
Further and further away from you
O Allah, you brought me home
I thank You with every breath I take.
Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah
All praises to Allah, All praises to Allah
Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah
All praises to Allah, All praises to Allah.
I never thought about
All the things you have given to me
I never thanked you once
I was too proud to see the truth
And prostrate to you
Until I took the first step
And that’s when you opened the doors for me
Now Allah, I realized what I was missing
By being far from you.
Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah
All praises to Allah, All praises to Allah
Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah
All praises to Allah, All praises to Allah.
Allah, I wanna thank You
I wanna thank you for all the things that you’ve done
You’ve done for me through all my years I’ve been lost
You guided me from all the ways that were wrong
Indeed you give me hope
O Allah, I wanna thank you
I wanna thank You for all the things that you’ve done
You’ve done for me through all my years I’ve been lost

Lyrics:
If I was given one more chance
To live my life again
There would be no more mistakes
And be the best of man
I will give on and lend a hand
Just one last try
And I’ll know it’s too late
To changed the lightness mind
‘Cause when your time has come now
And your life has reached the end
You’re wishing for another
You can’t go back my friend
In the end ..
So many regerts that a hand
Don’t have time to shared them all
And I run out the excuses
Now It’s time to take the fall
‘Cause when your time has come now
And your life has reached the end
And you’re begging for another
You can’t go back my friend
In the end ..
‘Cause I have no more time
On this surface swarm
And If I had time
I would change it on
I will change it on ..

Lyrics:
When I was young
I was a fool
I was blind didn’t know any better
I was afraid I made too many mistakes
And You’d only look at me as a sinner
No matter how much I would try
All the walls I put up always shattered
Until Your mercy conquered me
O Allah
You know all of my
My insecurities
You keep them hidden far away
O Allah
You hide all of my
Sins and impurities
You call me back when I go astray
Whatever I did
Whatever I said that’s wrong
It was only because I was fed up
I thought I could do it all
That I was strong
But it turned out I wasn’t so clever
No matter how much I would try
All the walls I put up always shattered
Until Your mercy conquered me
Every time I reflect on Your blessings
Couldn’t thank You enough if I tried
If I praised You like the angels
Until the end of time
It’s not enough to deserve
All of Your love

“One Day” Lyrics:
Lying here wide awake on my own now
Silence is the loudest cry
I’m safe but I’ve lost everything I’ve known
I can smile because the pain has gone
But cry because it’s where I’m from
O God I turn to You to make me strong again, oh
Chorus:
One day I can reach that rainbow
Watch the sweet reflection
Shining off my first home
I’d give anything to see my family again
And say how much I love them
That’s all I imagine
One day
I wish I could go back tomorrow
If it’s only for just one second
Put warmth back into a town that’s frozen
I can smile because the pain has gone
But cry because it’s where i’m from
O God I turn to You to make me strong again
CHORUS
I have cried so many times
And all those tears have washed my eyes
Now I see clearly into the light
‘Cause I believe
I know one day I’ll be home again
To start a new life, with peace everywhere
Right from the start until the end
I believe that one day
I can reach that rainbow
One day, one day
I believe that one day
One day
CHORUS
One day, one day
One day, one day

Lyrics:
This is not the way it is
This is not the way it should be
You’re destroying everything,
Everything that’s dear to me.
I can never be like you
You are the wicked of this world
You are the reason why we feel fear in our daily lives.
Chorus:
And faith is not about killing, it’s about life and sharing life with someone
Yes faith is not about killing, it’s about life and sharing life and making a difference
Yeah making a difference!
Do not involve the innocent
Do not involve them that’s not the way
Lost in your own ignorance, believing you will save the day
Chorus
It is not enough to say
That you’re fighting for a good cause,
When you take their lives away,
Ask the ones that suffered their loss
Chorus
Use your mind, use your mind
It was given for you to use
Use your mind, use your mind, not for you to abuse

Lyrics:
DON’T DESPAIR, DON’T LOSE HOPE
HOLD ON TO THAT ROPE
DON’T LET GO, DON’T LET GO
I HEAR YOUR CALL
THOUGH YOU FEEL SO COLD
ABANDONED AND ALONE
BUT DON’T LET GO, DON’T LET GO
I HEAR YOUR CALL
GIVE ME YOUR HAND MY BROTHER
I WILL NOT LET YOU GO
PLEASE DON’T LOOK BACK MY SISTER
I SWEAR I HEAR YOU CALL
GIVE ME YOUR HAND MY BROTHER
I WILL NOT LET YOU FALL
PLEASE DON’T LOOK BACK MY SISTER
‘CAUSE I SWEAR I HEAR YOUR CALL
LITTLE BOY ASK AWAY “WHERE ARE THE STREETS I USED PLAY TO?”
BUT DON’T LET GO, DON’T LET GO
I HEAR YOUR CALL
DON’T YOU KNOW WE’RE ONE
WHEN YOU HURT I HURT
DON’T LET GO, DON’T LET GO
I HEAR YOUR CALL
(URDU)
UMMEDON KO NA TODO
DO NOT LOSE HOPE
HATH MERA THAAM LO
HOLD MY HAND
TANHA NAHI SAMJHO TUM
DO NOT CONSIDER YOURSELF ALONE
MERE APNE TUM HO
WE ARE A FAMILY
GIVE ME YOUR HAND MY BROTHER
I WILL NOT LET YOU FALL
SO DON’T LOOK BACK MY SISTER

A world so lost, a world in pain
A world in need as mercy came
A calming peace, a love like rain
Our hearts will sing and praise his name
Chorus:

Salatullah salamullah

A living guide, his light will bring
The best in us to everything
O Allah send Your peace and blessings
In loving praise his name we’ll sing
CHORUS
Ilaahi salliml Ummah
(O Allah save the nation of believers)
Minal afaati wan niqmah
(From all hardship and from deserving your anger)
Wa min hammin, wa min ghummah

Istajib du’ana ya Allah!
(Accept our prayers O Allah!)
Ilahi najjina wakshif
(Our Lord save us and clear away…)
Jami’ athiyatin wasrif

Lyrics:
:M-U-S-L-I-M I’m so blessed to be with them…
:M-U-S-L-I-M I’m so blessed to be with them…
Say :M-U-S-L-I-M I’m so blessed to be with them…
Say :M-U-S-L-I-M I’m so blessed to be with them…
One billion strong, all year long
Prayers to Allah even in Hong Kong
You can never be wrong if you read the Qur’an
Cause it’s never been changed since day one
Others may brag, say that we lag
But they don’t know all the power we had
The power we had, the power we have
So Muslimeen don’t you ever feel sad
Take many looks, go read their books
You’ll see all the facts that your friends overlooked
So always be proud, you can say it out loud
I am proud to be down with the Muslim crowd!
Say : M-U-S-L-I-M I’m so blessed to be with them..
Say : M-U-S-L-I-M I’m so blessed to be with them…
Say : M-U-S-L-I-M I’m so blessed to be with them…
Say : M-U-S-L-I-M I’m so blessed to be with them…
They look at me strangely
Like I emit some type of energy
That draws kaafirs disbelievers towards me
Thinking to themselves what makes him different than me
Is it the hair, the clothes or maybe the food he eats
What could it be, that makes the cats stand at attention
His demeanor’s peaceful but on his face it’s clearly written that
This ain’t the sorta brother caught up in this and that
Running streets, carrying heat, yo he ain’t into that
This brother must live by some type of criteria
To make it to the average cat quite superior
So maybe one of these days I get near enough
Play like Nancy Drew on this mystery and clear it up
So listen up if you think this is strange
Cause these the type of thoughts that used to run through a new Shahada’s brains
And I bear witness to the one with 99 names, InshAllah I will always remain
CHORUS
Say:M-U-S-L-I-M I’m so blessed to be with them…
Say:M-U-S-L-I-M I’m so blessed to be with them…
Say:M-U-S-L-I-M I’m so blessed to be with them…
Say:M-U-S-L-I-M I’m so blessed to be with them…
Don’t know about you, I know about me
I’m proud to be rolling Islamically
Everywhere I see, even on tv
People talking trash about the way I be
But what they all hate, is if we get great
Cause we’re the only ones with our heads on straight
Don’t ever frown, or your head looking down
If you read the Qur’an you’re the best in the town
Y’all have doubt- say we have no clout
But-within-a-few years see how we’ve come about
Were back on the scene, The number-one deen
I’m proud to be down with the Muslimeen!

Lyrics:
I can’t take it any longer, these troubles in my mind
And I just can’t keep it to myself, just how I feel inside
All the troubles in the world today, we cannot leave behind
But you’d say we are the ones to blame, are we the one to our blind?
And when we take on all we need
We’ll move on to know for more to receive
And in this world it there’s so much green, leave it and astray
It’s not caning any better now, were all us can’t escape
And I feel we are too busy now, one next we cannot take
And when we take on all we need
We’ll move on to know for more to receive
And in this world it there’s so much green, leave it and astray
One simple thought, thought from the mind
Could change the world, change it tonight!
What do you feel when turn after life?
One simple thought, thought from our minds
Could change the world, make it all night!
What do you feel when turn after life?
When turn out the life?

“Good Day” Lyrics:
Woke up with the light
A sky so blue upon my eyes
With a thankful heart
Today is another brand new start
I feel so positive
Just want to do my best
And show this world I’m living in
All of the love that I can give, give, give
There are many things that I can do
Many things yeah
That can make me feel so close to You
To You, to You, to You, oh!
This joy within my heart can’t be removed
Within my heart when I’m…
Loving, loving, loving, loving You, yeah!
Chorus:
Oh, everyday is a good day
I put my life in Your hands Allah
You will always lead my way
Oh, everyday is a good day
I give my life to You Allah
You will always lead my way
I love this morning breeze
Love how it can revive my soul
I’m so glad to be
Surrounded by the people I know
Filled with happiness
Just wanna give my all
And be all that I can be
Share all my love and energy, yeah!
There are many things that I can do
Many things yeah
That can make me feel so close to You
To You, to You, to You, oh!
This joy within my heart can’t be removed
Within my heart when I’m…
Loving, loving, loving, loving You, yeah!

DESCRIPTION:
Experience the beauty and unity of diverse musical traditions with Sami Yusuf’s
latest release, ‘One.’ Recorded live at the Holland Festival in June 2022,
this piece showcases exceptional artistry from Cappella Amsterdam,
the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra, and Sami Yusuf’s own ensemble.
Composed and arranged by Sami Yusuf,
‘One’ is a stunning blend of Western European vocal performance and the dynamic
rhythms of Andalusian, North African and Middle Eastern instruments including the ney,
violin, qanun, santur and percussions.
The German words by Meister Eckhart and Arabic poetry by Abu al-Hasan al-Shushtari
speak of the Eternal I and the unity of vision, emphasising the separate beauty of
each path and their underlying unity.
Performed in E Flat with allusions to maqām Nahāwand,
‘One’ opens with Cappella Amsterdam’s hauntingly beautiful vocals,
transitioning to the richly textured and dynamic rhythms of Amsterdam
Andalusian Orchestra, culminating in a mesmerising santur and percussion performance
by Sami Yusuf’s ensemble.
‘One’ invites you to experience the oneness of the human spirit in art.
